Just bought this kit October 2020. I was not expecting the quality and fit of this kit. Little details like the brake master cylinder AND spark plugs in the engine block were a real nice feature. Everything thing fits perfectly. I only wish ALL kits were made this way.

You are right about needing a good primer on this one. The red plastic came through my Testors primer immediately.

Yepper - that red plastic is tough to paint. I automatically use a heavy black primer first then a lighter one if I need it. -Doug

Great build. Here's an interior tip I learned from some pro builders. Painting interiors with gloss or flat colors don't really look right. You can use a satin color spray, or if you did use a gloss color, use a can of matte finish clear. It gives interiors a better realistic look..

Doug, That is a very good looking build. I am about to finish up my build of this car. Another tip I have is that I found when you are using light colored decals on dark paint , such as white decals on red paint is to spary a light coat of clear on the paint . Then apply the decals , the first coat of clear keeps paint from bleeding through the decals.

The ertl 1:18 scale ready made die cast car is for me the best representation of this iconic car. I bought one back in the early 2000's when that silly re-make movie version of the show came out. The model in this scale, is highly detailed with opening hood, doors and trunk. And steerable wheels. The engine is well detailed, as is the interior. Incidently, the tires have white lettering on them, and the overall paint finish and decals are flawless. It's quite large at this scale at around 10 inches long, and is quite a heavy well made model. Much better than these small scale plastic models.

@@RightOnReplicas I'm 61 now and the old eyes are not what they used to be. I used to make quite a few of those 1:24 scale models when I was much younger. And you are right, there is a lot of satisfaction in building up these models. The trouble is here in the UK, model Hobby shops and specialists are now almost non existent. And, I suppose, at the end of the day, those ready made large scale die-casts a pretty damn good. Much better than smaller scale plastic ones.

GD, You're right about the detail on die cast models. It is very good. The ting is - if it's not a documented vehicle (known historically) it's hard to get one exactly the way you want it, I also know a good number of UK modelers that would agree! -Doug

Have you watched "Fantomworks" He has a good collection of these large 1:118 scale vehicles, and always has the vehicle on display that he is restoring.

I think Starsky said it was "Candy Apple" red. I think the Ford Trucks and cars in the '70's came in that and Rangoon as the only red option.

The white decal is slightly a bit to high on the front fender, I got my touching the arch just like on the real car, great video thanks.

It looks good, and the TV show car did only have black wall tires, but it did have a little wider rear tire with deep dish rims.

I built this kit too and I see you had the same trouble as me in lining the stripe up. No amount of setting solution helped to make it more flexible so mine now has a very tiny split in it. Great job though and it's a big car when built

I think there is a good market for TV-themed cars. Waiting for Jim Rockford's Pontiac Sprint molded in brown metallic. I left a message at the tone. Maybe a series of cars from The Godfather with an offer I can't refuse.

I have subscribed because I like watching the videos. Going to be using the wheel backs and tires on the ‘72 Cutlass Supreme, from Revell. I’ll also be converting that car into a hardtop bu using s AMT ‘70 Monte Carlo kit.

If you haven't built this kit, & haven't attempted to put the 3 piece white stripe on it. Put on a pot of coffee, because you are going to be there for awhile. Just sayin.

The real Zebra= no woodgrain tach area, but the kit does. Just horn area & thin door trim.

you're 100% wrong. Joseph Wright has an original tv car go look at it and the wheel has wood grain on the lower half
