I made an awesome discovery while building this kit: use a crayon to go over the "Mercury" on the front fender trim. It fills in the recessed area, then you can wipe off the excess and end up with perfect detail. Having learned that trick, I did the same on the wheel covers. I used a dark magenta crayon, trim was painted chrome.

Sure am! I'm building a 70's dirt track Chevelle out of the Revell snap-kit... Lots of scratch building and x-tra after market parts but lots of fun!! Just finished the frame and brake-lines... Next 6 point roll cage!

This was a really awesome build, I have been watching that old tv series the Walton's on one of the local channels as they are doing the WWII years. and when I saw the box cover it looked like the car they use on that show . although this is a 49 and they are saying it is 43 on the show. But a really cool model.

Might make a good Mod Squad Woody. I have the Surf Boards, '49 Merc Flathead V8 and other goodies. The Trim on the Front of the Hood could be replicated using a Decal. The Front Turn Indicators and Roof Rack might be a little more ... Trying. There may be some cursing, but that comes with the Insanity of this Hobby. Whatever I come up with for the Roof has got to be better looking than what Aurora Tooled for their Kit in 1969(?). Looked like an inside out Picnic Table. Lets not mention the HUGE Outie Navel in the Roof. It looked nasty... Just not in the good way.

WO, Very few car model kits feature opening doors and trunks since the 70's. When I find one, I glue them shut so they look good. Consider it a challenge to your modeling skills. Then again, there's always die cast! -Doug

It's the principle Doug. Car models don't get all that worry about accuracy they give to armor and airplane models. Try to sell a Messerschmidt BF-109 with a Merlin engine from a P-51 and see what happens. Not to mention the huge harm they are doing to the actual education of young people, that will think the Cadillac engine is what Mercury had under the hood. You built the excellent 1948 Ford Police Coupe kit. With very little money in tooling they could had made a quite nice Mercury Flathead for this woody, based on the '48 Ford engine. Talking about Fords, I'm still waiting for a Doug built '65 and '66 Galaxie. The '65 is really cool, with poseable steering and opening trunk!!!
