How to build tapered exhaust cones start to finish.

Welcome to my video on how to make tapered exhaust cones. In this video we will cover the processes start to finish on how to execute any size exhaust cone.
We will cover how to calculate your sizes, how to make your template, cutting out your pieces, and most importantly the rolling process of the cone.
Whether your an experienced fabricator or just a beginner I hope there is value and knowledge to be gained from how-to tutorial video!
Enjoy!

If you extended the side layout lines till they intersect you can use that point to set a radius to scribe the inlet and outlet. To make things easier implement a tip-up the first 5-10mm of material in a brake press, pan brake, or over a edge. This allows the slip to get a more consistent seam with less work hammer forming the last bit trying to achieve the same results

Can you now show us how you fill the cone for good sounding exhaust? And also how can we easily bend the pipe for building it out the headers.. Great work!

Couple things here . 1. The cones you see in the video are megaphones , they are part of the header system . There is an addition unit that goes beyond the cone , what we call a muffler or a canister that actually gets the perforated core with packing . (Where you get your exhaust sound) We do not mandrel bend tubing in our shop , all of our tubing gets ordered in from suppliers Thank you for the questions and thanks for watching

How would I know how large or small of a cone (length or diameters) I need? Is it a guess and check situation or is there a calculation I could do?

6:25 "you need to kind of rotate the piece" Not if you use a snubber. The snubber acts like a pivot point and the sheet metal turns by itself.

What's your estimated fab time for a single cone and do you think that time could be cut down significantly when using a softer material such as aluminum? I build intake plenums and require cone reducers, which I have to purchase at $25ea + shipping, in my design. If build time is under 30 minutes then that would save so much $$$.

Hey ! Thank you for the good question. I think once you get your template/ process down you could build several cones in 30 minutes . It probably only takes about 10 minutes per cone by the time it’s rolled and tacked up if you know what your doing

What does the length do for it? Does a longer cone yield more performance?

It depends on the engine combination. There is still a lot of question marks in the exhaust industry. All the teams I work with try a variety of exhausts with every engine package.
