In this lesson, I show how to use a major scale to build major and minor chords all over the fingerboard. From there, I offer a fun way to practice getting to know the fingerboard by exploring a small area at a time, gradually building up. It's important to explore and tinker with different variations and arrangements of roots, thirds, and fifths. I hope you enjoy!

There's a common misconception where people think that just because they can play the guitar, they can also teach it. That's made it really hard for me and many others to learn, but Scott is such a great teacher and it helps so much.

Bro you are like that one teacher in high school who can actually make the entire class pay attention. You are awesome, keep it up!
Dear Mr. Johnson, I really have to say that you just create the best guitar lesson videos by far! Your explanations and the visualizations on the guitar neck are just awesome! Thank you very much for offering us this garest content!

Wow. After watching your videos... how are you not the most popular teacher out there! You have a fan sir.
I know all of these elements individually. But the magic your bring is it’s a massive key unlocked on how all of this fits together.
Never thought I could tolerate someone teaching music theory but you actually make it pretty easy and intuitive to follow. Happy holidays my guy
Holy crap!!! I was just thinking yesterday about how I wanted this channel to start up again!!!
Words typed in the comments do not have the capacity to convey my appreciation for what you're doing. I cannot pinpoint what makes your videos vastly more helpful than other youtube lessons (whether it be your overlay, pace/tone of speech, etc) but all your work makes a lovely amalgamation of guidance. Thank you.
I with you Jake. This guy is a remarkable teacher. A natural. His tools are over the top good tool That fret board camera and what he does with it are amazingly lucid. Absolutely one of the best. Stay there Scott. Too many greats get lost in the rapture of the adulation. Here's hoping you can keep it real...
I'm so happy to see you back! A few months ago I found your channel and your videos covering the caged system helped me so much with soloing I can't thank you enough for that!
I learned more from watching three of your videos than I have in my eight months of playing guitar and failing go get into theory. To be fair, I wasn’t very motivated before, but you also just make it so, so easy to understand. There’s something very nice about learning theory that you can immediately apply and try for yourself. So thank you for uploading these videos!!
You are simply the best guitar tutor on this planet!!
You must know this by the plethora of comments but I would be remiss if i didn't say that you are truly the best guitar teacher on KZread -- Hoping to join the patreon soon, PLEASE DON'T STOP FRIEND
So good to see you back, and so grateful for sharing your lessons with us all!
You're the light of my day Scott! Put a smile on my face when I saw the notification. This comment is for the quality lesson, the edit, your personality, and KZread referencement.

Thank you so much! You could literally pick any theory argument and make it so easy to comprehend and apply. You’re the best!

You were the only person who could help me learn the caged system. I think you're far and away the best at giving clear and understandable lessons. Please continue.
I have seen a lot of theory lessons on youtube, never had such a good one as this - thank you very much and Happy 2021
I was so excited to see another video from you! Love the visuals and how you explain everything. Most definitely my go to guitar teacher on youtube. Thank you, sir! Keep doing what you're doing.
This is a very welcome lesson, especially for the poor or elderly folk who unfortunately are unable to finance a Patreon donation. Hopefully they will continue for their benefit .... have a Happy New Year Scott.

@@philjames1019 I can attest to how amazing the patreon page is. Most one hour lessons cost about $40 from an instructor. Here you get hundreds of hours of content and a community page for 1/4 of that price per month. For those who can set aside two coffee's a month, I highly recommend

So stoked to see you back man. You’re incredible! I found myself at multiple times the past year or so just looking at your uploads by most recent to see if anything new came. I had almost lost hope my theory Jedi had left. Then one day like a Phoenix he returns!
You must understand how you process your own thoughts when learning really well in order to be able to explain things like you do. Natural born teacher.
Hope all is well. It's great to see you back on KZread, your lessons are intuitive and informative. Love how you got right on with it too, no rambling around. Looking forward to more great lessons.

I bought a printer solely to follow along with your charts and grow as a musician. Welcome back and thank you for your music theory vids! You're a great teacher

Welcome back! Fantastic video, great explanations... THANK YOU!!!
Truly, again an amazing lesson from scott Paul Johnson and just when i needed it the most. Good to see you in good health, the way you teach is superb! Thank you and best wishes for 2021!
your videos are insanely helpful. even though every musician started their journey as a beginner, you possess a great understanding of what it's like to be one, which makes it so much easier to grasp, at least for me. it shows in how you pace a lesson, how you translate musical "common sense" for laymen AND in how you edit the videos. your editing is highly unique and extremely valuable. thank you very much!
So happy you're back. Thanks for such a great lesson.
🙌 brilliant as always, welcome back, and thanks for another invaluable lesson!
