How To Build Full Length Front Porch With Low Roof Pitch And Higher Ceiling - New Construction
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
www.homebuildingandrepairs.co... Visit our website today to learn more about porch construction, home design and building repairs. In this video I will provide viewers with one way to design and build a full length porch from one side of the house to the other with a low sloping roof and a ceiling that attaches to the porch beams instead of sitting on top. Information in this video might require structural modifications, building permits or structural engineers approval before building.

I watched your videos and was able to build my backyard patio cover by myself. Only had help with roofing. 50X16 4X6 Posts. 24X24 footings 2X8 Rafters 2X8 facia 4X10 beams 10 feet apart 3/4 plywood. After that I built 2 more for a customer. Thank you for taking the time to teach and make awsome videos.

What about one with hangers off the facia board. Just and add on overhang
So awesome
I built something similar two years ago. I wish I’d seen this beforehand. I simply slid my rafters into the attic and fastened them into the truss. The weight of the roof is on the top plate (and beam of course). But, I do like this design. Thanks for sharing!

Why do you wish to see this beforehand? What's wrong with simply doing what you did?
This is a good video on building a substantial porch. But I am interested more in something like an overhang.

I want to build a full length porch. The builder of the home said that the trusses are "engineered" and nothing can be added or messed with the trusses. Is this true? Is there a way to add a porch despite engineered trusses? Thank you.
Great video!! I am following these instructions to add a room to my home instead of a patio. I have a tile roof, the wave like tile. Any idea how I could tile this, specifically where the house roof pitch changes to the addition roof pitch? Any help or guidance is appreciated! Awesome job on this. - Dave.

Usually water proof membranes will be installed first, then tile over that to prevent leaking on low slope roofs.
Something that people might find interesting would a second floor walk out deck but a covered porch underneath sir

It's on my list and good idea for a video.
Haven't seen Pressure blocks since the eighties, hangers are the standard,(in bc ). Ceiling joists can be easily hung off a ledger,no need to make sure Ceiling joists rest on top of wall plates. Good video,I enjoyed

We used a lot of pressure blocks when building drop ceiling and stair landing in southern California until the year 2000.

@@gregvancom sounds reasonable, I'm a fan of pressure blocks ,up here in bc we pretty much got all our practices from California, such as a California corner,were you bump out the corner post the exact thickness of the sheathing of the attached wall,saving time and hassle of trying to get sheathing overlap. Most engineers won't let you do it now, unless you put some straps on it,say every foot. Thanks for the posts.
Perfect video for that job. I do have a question. Can we build the roof, with onky top rafters and without ceiling ragters., just trying to make the water running farder of the house, because water from roof is going to the basement
Hi my name is Michael I’m looking to do something a bit different then this. I’m looking to upgrade my 1974 winniebago chieftain but I was looking to install 2x4 or 2x6 with insulation and flooring any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Do you have a video that shows how to figure out the angles for where the roofs meet and the pitch changes on the gable subfascia? I'm building a house that has a main roof pitch of 6/12 and the porch roof is a 3/12 and when I attach the subfascia to the lookouts on the gable where they meet is there a formula or some other way to figure the angle that needs to be so they connect nice? Do I put a plumb 6/12 to a 90 degree square cut for the 3/12 or square cut the 6/12 and put a plumb 3/12 or how would you recommend making that connection? Hopefully I'm explaining it well for you. Thanks

You explained it correctly and I don't have any videos on that yet, but did put your suggestion on my list. I usually attach one, like the top and then hold the other up using some bracing to support lower fascia and then mark the intersecting lines.
Can you please do a video showing how to build a stepped down gabled roof patio, I’m coming off of an existing gable roof but I want to build the new gable roof under the soffit of existing gable to cover my patio.

Do you have a video showing the space between posts? I have an enclosed porch with posts every 3ft. I want to remove the screens and some of the posts. Thanks for your videos, very educational.

@@gregvancom I'd like to see this too. Please on doing on in a couple of month at my house.
Looking to do something similar to this to my front porch this summer. I’m concerned with the ability of the trusses to support the extra weight of all that lumber where they tie in to the existing roof. I always thought they were only designed to handle their snow load plus a safety percentage. Would they support all this extra lumber and their normal or heavy snow load?

You would need to contact the truss manufacture or an engineer for more information. I will be providing a few more ideas to reduce the weight put on existing roof framing in future videos.

please make videos about "well" hipped roof, I can't find anything about it not even on google, the house was build in 1900 in rural South Australia

You should check out our website. In the home building section, you will find framing and on that page a link to roof framing. If not, then I would need more details about what you're looking for.

How would we add a front porch to a two story home with a flat front to it? I don't want the porch roof coming off the roofline, I just want it to cover the first level.
Do you have a video like this that wraps around the side of the house?? Particularly if the sides are different depths.

I could totally use that right now as I am racking my head trying to figure out how the hip rafter is going to tie into the building. More specifically how the over hang is going to tie in without having a weird triangle piece.
P.S this would be a flat roof maybe about 27 feet truck.
Hello, are you an engineer? Do you provide consultations?
I am actually trying to incorporate a full length porch like this into my design, but the hurdle for me is the minimum pitch requirement. What is the pitch of the roof over the porch in your design? And is your main roof 12/12?
@gregvancom
Жыл бұрын
If I didn't mention it, it's because other designs could have different pitches. I think my design has a 10:12 for main roof and 1:12 over porch.
Was the plan to shingle this roof? I am just wondering about the change in angle at the porch/main roof junction.
@gregvancom
Жыл бұрын
You can install shingles if allowed in your area or other roofing materials for low slope roofs. I've seen these porch roofs with tile and water proofing materials under the tile.

@@gregvancom Thanks for your reply. I have another question - If this is new construction, is there a reason why the roof trusses supporting the roof over the house were not just continued on to also cover the porch area? I am guessing it has to do with the fact that the lateral load on the beam/posts would be too much? Or maybe it's aesthetics due to a difference in slope on both sides of an A frame roof?
What about ventilation for your house roof? That blocking stops it
@gregvancom
Жыл бұрын
Sometime you can install roof dormer vents instead of blocking. If you run into a situation where you double blocked a section of the attic, then you might need to drill some holes to allow air to circulate.
how many MPH wind is this OK for? What is the height of the roof point you extended out from? Great looking porch!
@gregvancom
2 жыл бұрын
I don't have any engineer calculations on the wind, but the porch roof could go higher and extend further with more bracing and structural supports.
