Thank you for sharing this video. This is a good porch built in an economical way and with common sense. Some people use too much wood and create overkill and do over spending.

Your rafters that are sitting on the board between the outside 4x4 post, is actually called a top plate. It’s called a top plate, because it’s sits on top of your post. Nails or screws that hold a load on a board , will eventually come off from the great amount of pressure. Depending on the weight. That board needs to sit on top. Since you have already, built it , there is a safe way to correct it. Take two 2x4 s and screw them below the board holding your rafters up . Attach them to the 4x4 post , at the base, up to the bottom of the board. It will support, the weight. This is actually dangerous, if a load of snow , we’re to accumulate on the porch, it could actually kill someone from the weight. That’s why they have , building inspector s in every town in America.

That porch and the house look really, really nice! Nice Job Mr Chud. I had to wonder though.. I know you had a lot of work to do and it had to get done. Just wondering if Colonel Craftsman and Barefoot Chud on the mower of his choice coulda pulled that brick porch away. Maybe have to invite Lady Chud on her favorite mower to get the job done. lol. COOL video. Thanks!
