Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this episode, I'm answering my most frequently asked questions about building your own home and giving these answers in a tutorial type format. With the high price of lumber these days, many people want to learn how to build, so in this video I talk about my DIY gray water system, venting a crawlspace, venting a roof, concrete piers, pole barn structures and important things to consider when installing T-11 sheathing and siding.

LOL, "can't have a building projects video without talking about bubble foil." That got a chuckle out of us, for sure!
Hi Boss! Your friends from Locke, NY here, and oh how we’ve missed you. Life has been so hectic and we lost track of watching your videos. They bring us so much joy and education. We have now made it a daily routine to watch one video a night of yours. Thank you for educating, inspiring, and sharing your wisdom (and art) with us! Much love and gratitude, Karynn and Karl Altmann

Welcome back and all the best to you and yours :-)
Boss Of The Swamp for more than one reason. With age and time comes wisdom. I'm 65 and still going to College. Ya ! University of Hard Nocks. You can always learn something from someone. It's Life Learning that never ends.
JC, there is not one thing you said that I would do differently. You have a great talent as a builder and are very disciplined in you technical methods. I agree with it all, thanks for putting quality videos to help so many people! The nickname Boss definitely fits you Sir.
Great Q&A, JC! I sometimes wish I could kidnap you for a few days to give me advice on some projects, but these videos really do help! You are a wealth of knowledge, disguised in camo!
Been watching u for a long while and u sir are very good at what u do, the best I've ever seen, for cabin life, Be Blessed
We're getting ready to build ourselves a log cabin starting next spring. I'm absorbing like a sponge all the info I can get and yours is the best by far! Thanks ! Stay strong, healthy and happy!

Your T111 at 5/8” thick is a great product. Your building practices are exceptional. Good job Boss.
Love the Bubble foil. Great info JC!
Hello JC- You have such useful, common sense, building advice and instruction. In case noone has noticed, the price of just about everything has gone " through the ROOF!". Feels like we are going back in time in a good way. I say that because we 1970s homesteaders had energy, motivation and NO MONEY. And here we are again! You are revisiting the concept of thinking and working smart. It has served us well to this day. Life on our farm is going along in good fashion. Six calves and counting... Your new property project is looking mighty fine! Happy spring to you and Lori ! ~ Diane

Thank you Diane. Prices have been paralyzing to my project plans. I work on many projects at one time, doing what I can where i wont go broke in the process. All the best to you and Jim :-)
Thanks, Boss! Trust your building experience implicitly. Hugs and love to all!
A lot of great points boss. So I never thought of. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
I'm going to build a large chicken coop in 2023. This helped me so much!! Thank you!
Thanks for taking the time to give this information boss man. You just can’t beat life experience. Where is my pencil and paper to write this stuff down🙂👍
so so so happy to see you post another video Boss! Love to hear your words of wisdom always :)

Thank you, Boss, for this information. I am going to my new property next month in Oregon at the 5100-foot level, in the montains, and forested. There is a lot of rock up there so I know I will need to be careful where I put my support. I will update you after I get up there and try to send you some photos. Good luck, Mike
Great advise. I tell folks about bubble foil. Some listen some don't. Some make it .some won't. Lol keep them coming buddy
Boss is the jedi of Bert/Erie explanation. Your a true inspiration, and no one is more deserving of Moose Drool than u.
Another Great Episode of "This New/Old Homestead"!! J.C., it is always interesting to learn what you have learned over time in building design and use.....glad all is well up on the Mountain! Take care, and God Bless! ~Lou

Thanks for sharing info. Oh, the bug on my screen (your paper😀) at 21:14 got me, I was just a swiping my screen to shew it away...too funny.
JC you need to write a book about your methods! You sold me on the bubble foil a long time ago. I think most KZreadrs say there is no way it could work OR they got their info from you and endorse it. Your book would be the thinnest “How To” book because it would be filled with common sense and no fluff. With all of your years of experience building cabins, I’m going with what you say every time. Even when I get the “raised eyebrow” look when I tell people what I am going to do, it just doesn’t matter to me! You have always given great advise based on actual first hand knowledge. Good enough for me! Thank you! 😁

I totally understand what you're talking about with the frost. At different points on our property the frost acts differently, depending on how thick the topsoil is from the top to the bedrock. How humid the ground was before the freeze, where springs are. Great video, thanks for the info... also dealing with the department of making you sad and permits..
Great tips boss. Thanks.
Lots of wisdom shared here. Thanks, JC!
Always great to see you Boss. I'm a learning professional, and I always enjoy how well you teach. I learn so much from you.
Ramble on! Great stuff.

Thank you, Jim.
We both learned a few things, sad to say our project days are over due to age. Young people can learn much from your videos, very informative. Blessings
I love the idea of you teaching what you do. You gave a clear and concise introduction. Thank you.

First I sat down and saw you had a video. Then, I clicked on it. Then, before watching, I clicked LIKE. No brainer. NOW, I'm gonna watch the video and come back. Truly, I was in Greece listening to ya's. I didn't care. I watched. I was sticking around to the end for the song. I'm a 55 yr old lady that loves your channel. I am a gardener. I know NOTHING about building anything. LOL I'm sure those that are got some steller advice. Many blessings to you and Lori. Love from West Tennessee.

Good free advice. You should be the spokesperson for bubble foil. Only northerners know about froze line. Southerners just need concrete a 8-10" pad and start building on top. Best to consult a local Geotechnical engineer to insure the footings are proper. Sure don't want uneven settling after the building is up. Next is the building design and orientation for best use of natural lighting ventilation. Best built it right n no short cuts, unless you know what you are doing.

You be proud of me, we were up at our new property today 5/10/22 and I found a big piece of Chaga it weighs 26.65 ounces. We have a lot of birch on the property and the birch that was looking at had it all over the place we have Popular trees we have red oak trees. Lots of dead fall for this coming winter for heat

Great building tips. I utilized your septic idea for my shower in the cabin. I ended up going below the frostline but I also put 4 feet of sewer stone underneath the drain tube so hopefully it will perform well. I even implemented the black painted carboy method for my shower water and it works slick! Got to get up this weekend to resume work on the cabin and spend my first night in it. Coming along nicely now that the snow is gone.
best channel on KZread! thanks! all the best to you!
