Casually Competitive MTG I like your video guys but I wanted to let you know of a few things 😊. 1) with just clouds tone curio and two 1 cmc creatures you can go off. You won’t add to your starting mana but when the Chileans trigger land enters cloud stone will let you bounce another land land. 2) Also overburden works just like mana breach with shrieking drake, costs one less mana, also hurts najeelas Tolkens. 3) There are many combos on how to win with earth craft and shrieking drake/village bell ringer. Just shrieking drake and earth craft and an island wins the game.

I did forget to mention that Cloudstone Curio line, good catch. It can be a super nice / compact backup to Mana Breach + Drake. Overburden is also a nice backup card as well. I personally prefer Mana Breach since it can be used as a nice stax-y hate piece, but I have definitely debated slotting Overburden into my personal Chulane deck many times. In terms of the Earthcraft combo, I wanted to try to limit this video to the essentials and didn't want to get too sidetracked with all the possible ways this commander can win - that being said using Earthcraft is definitely a strong card in this deck

I wanted to ask if you could explain the symbiote combo, I'm not fully understanding how it works I see the play of turning it into an elf so it can bounce itself to untap something but does this only work if it's untapping a creature that taps G+1? If so that's fine but I just felt like a was missing something, I understand in the scenario I described it would let you replay the elf until you've decked yourself and netted a ton of mana in the process. The only other way is if the entity effect is like a state based effect and it doesn't matter if you play a creature after it's been used it enters as a 1/1 changeling? If that's the case I see how the loop would work with just a single mana dork.

More important is how you pronounce him than build him, if you say it wrong he doesn't go infinite

@@CasuallyCompetitiveMTG I see where you are coming from with all of that. In my personal list which is more mid game hatebears with the combo side i switched out aluren and intruder alarm for earthcraft and overburden because my meta has a fair amount of creature based wins and i would rather run low to the ground wincons that dont give my opponents a chance to respond while im going off (i.e.- untapping their mana dorks or allowing them to flash in an answer). It seems to be doing fairly well in my meta although i'm still in the tweaking phase and am constantly looking through my maybe board and main board to see what i can switch around :D

I like Walking Ballista for Chulane, it's easy to tutor, is a win condition when infinite, can start Chulane chains as a 0 cmc creature in a pinch and rarely feels like a dead card in hand. Awesome video, looking forward to more in this series!

this series is so promising. Invaluable for understanding some different approaches to this commander. I really like how Jospeh does an amazing job of not just reading part of a list but talking about the thoery, which makes it so you can learn and build a different deck or find your own cards that fill some of the same slots if you're working on more of a budget. Very quality content.

One of my biggest level up moments was learning how to mulligan properly and when to aggressively mulligan. Opening hand decisions can make or break a game for you sometimes and so it is very important to be able to make the decisions well. Thanks for the dope video!

Most of the time I can't make any oficial play events, or store events due to my work scheduale, and the group of friends I play with, we decided not to use infinate comboes in any of our decks. Would be interesting to see possible builds with this commander, and others, that don't use infinate combos, but still keep them competative. But it's also super fun to play and it works surprisingly well. Manipulate Fate and Foresight are really good tutors and BANT also has alright access to tutoring Food Chain as well. Perhaps this would take running more basic lands then you would normally wish to, but I can't help but feel earthcraft is another option for the deck. With drake, it works similer to the mana breach combo, except instead of returning the land to hand, you just keep tapping/untapping. It makes your mana dorks tap for mana the turn they come out, if you don't have crossroads out. You net mana with intruder alarm out. Heck, when the worst thing I can say about earthcraft is the potential to run squirrel craft combo in the deck, that's fine. And while I would never consider squirrel craft combo viable for CEDH, it lets you draw out with Beck.(I use both Beck and glimpse of nature as redundancy for chulanes draw effect. Perfect options? No. But always useful cards for digging deeper)

How does chulane interact with tap lands

Hey guys, first time commenting here, but do you think that it would be possible to run some decks that are not only competitive but also budget, like between 50-100 dollars

One suggestion: before making these commander introductory videos, make a commander tier list walk down by colors and styles. So people know which commander suits their preference of style and/or color. This way, any future video similar to this Chulane video is easily referenced. For example, if I want to play Bant with a adaptive style, I can choose Chulane, which would lead me to this video.

I was wondering where they got that screen shot from to post in the chulane discord. Btw the hand with sol ring is one you should not Mulligan because it can turn 3 chulane by playing the birds Paradise first into Sol ring and the avacyn's pilgrim it's a bit fragile if you don't top-deck a land

I didn't mean to say that hand was a hand to mulligan, my main point was that it was a risky keep. There are a lot of ways this hand can get nullified and set you way back. I personally would keep this hand in the meta I play in; however, if there is a meta that runs a lot of disruption or a meta deck that you know can easily slow down this start, it's very possible that hand gets stuck on 1 land for the first few turns. Not a mulligan, just a risky keep

Video was a pretty good primer for chulane, I have the deck built myself already and had a few questions. 1. Why prowling serpopard over destiny spinner? Destiny spinner is two 2cmc instead of 3, also protects enchantments , and can be an infinite mana outlet. 2. I see a lot of lists that include smothering tithe, but it seems like a dead card in the deck a good portion of the time. The main problem being its 4 mana and doesn’t help you go infinite or help draw into a wincon.

Serpopod is in there because it is uncounterable itself. Helps make it almost guaranteed it will stick and make your other creatures uncounterable. I do personally like destiny spinner alot though. Probably wouldn't be bad to throw in there as some redundancy/late game value.

Personally I prefer Serpopard because it itself is uncounterable so I treat it like an expensive silence. Destiny Spinner is nice for sure, but it gets hit by low CMC counterspells like Swan Song making it a little less secure. The lower CMC is nice but if I'm at the point where I'm trying to go for it and feel like I need more protection, the extra G is usually worth it. Smothering Tithe is nice because it generates a decent amount of value in games that tend to be more grindy. Ramping out a 4CMC spell isn't super hard in this deck and spending 4 CMC to accrue passive value over the next turn or two can be pretty relevant. It's a bit of a nonbo with the artifact hate, but I've still found it to be a valuable slot in my games

Casually Competitive MTG fair enough, seems like a better card on the combo turn in most cases.

Fantastic deck I've been wanting to build this but...I feel it's a bit to strong for my play group. Also I will say it again, get some merch!

This build can be strong for sure, but Chulane in general is still really fun to build around as a more casual deck. Also, don't worry, merch designs are well on their way. Expect an announcement in about a month
