always learning something from u Joey... even the smallest things learned can make huge impacts...great job!
I appreciated the explanation of the media and design. Thanks, Jim
thumbs up king of diy! love your fish and tanks,filtration the most!i copied the style of your sump.tnx alot for brilliant designs!
I am green with envy as usual Joey! Great job!! Can't wait for the next one!
I enjoyed the video as usual, in my opinion what separates you from other you tubers is how you show your builds and explain them so well. I hope to meet you next year and will try not to freak out too much.

dude you are unbelievable.....great stuff!
:D I love your videos! I'm not going to build anything, but I love learning about it.
Again a very interesting video. Thanks for sharing.
This is one of the best youtube channel ✌
One of the best your video, as for me
DIY King, Thanks for the great info and ideas you put out. I was wondering, if this type of filtration system works well for salt water aquariums? Thanks Again, Phil RS
Thats a nice sump Joey. Thanks
Joey, I have a recommendation for you. I have seen your DIY aquarium background video. That looks like a time consuming and tedious process. I saw a video using expanding insulation foam and sand that appears to be a much faster, cleaner process and it gave an amazing result (albeit not as controlled for things like your underwater waterfall). If you could do your take on this build, I would be appreciative, because you always do amazing explanations with the highest production value of the aquarium market videos I watch.
Awesome work man.
Very nice!! I like the clean and simple design!! Thumbs up!!

have you tried adding acoustic panels to the insides of your base? I see a fair bit of space and the doors should accommodate them as well. Might make a difference =)
Thank you, the info is very useful for my aquarium, next time I will make it
Hey Joey, awesome build! What's your opinion on fluidized sand bed filters as opposed to fluidized K1 media?
I think I might wind up watcing the media turn over more than the aquarium. Its hypnotic!
Your crazy lol. Building some great stuff. Can't wait to see it all come together.
Awesome video.
Hey bro really informative videos. Any idea what kind of air pump i would need to fluidize about 30L of K1 in 60L barrel?
hey joey, greetings from India! i just want to know how much media have you used in this particular sump?
great job!
Hi, What power air pump was used to fluidize the media and how many pumps were used?
Once you go filter socks you don't go back :P I diy my own with 4"PVC rings I made. Tho I use a large 8" sock for the first mech filtration and two 4" socks for after the K1. Works awesome. Cheers Joey!

Fired Up Filter!!! I plan building one of these for tank.
Joey on your panel Edge prep have you ever thought about using a burns Ematic it works REALLY QUICK and the edge is perfect of any flaws

hi, what a good info. i plan to make a 800 gallon freshwater aquarium and I'm bit confused in choosing the best sum for it. in your opinion which type of sumps will be better to use it and gives me a great result? I'm thinking to build either wet dry or k1 fluidise filter. which one do you advice? keep in consideration that my tank will be made from concrete with only front glass panel and the stand will be made from concrete as well. my tank measurements are 350 cm long, 100 cm high and 80 cm wide.
Did you use any other forms of glue after the weld-on 4 ? I work in a sign shop where we make a lot of acrylic signage of all types (2d and 3d letters, molded, vacuum formed, cnc cut and just general box types) and we use the methelyene chloride for the initial bond and then use a product from acri-fix for the structural bonds. I am just curious if the extra step of using acri-fix is required.
Thank you for sharing this. Question, will this type of fluid filter and media be suitable for a salt water aquarium?

Have you ever had a acrylic tank that you have built break? Like a seam break? I have always wanted to try building a tank but have very expensive saltwater fish.
Hey Joey, you did a video a while back about breeding and selling discus and I was wondering where you went to sell them? Did you just put them on ebay or was it somewhere else? I only ask because my angelfish laid eggs and about 90% of them hatched (all doing very well by the way.) and I need to know where I can sell them so my tank does not get over populated. Also I live in Michigan (U.S.) if that makes a difference, the only fish store around here is a feed n seed and I have not been able to get any answer so far as to if they will buy them or not. Any advice you can give is very much appreciated.
Looking good Joey. What's the word on the tropheus?
does your book explain how too build a fish tank coffee table. great video btw
Hei. Great video. But i wonder... Can i use like a wave maker or 2 instead? That will make the same movement to the media? Thomas
hey Joey! do you mind saying what it cost in acrylic to build the 375?
Watching that k1 is mesmerizing.
Hey Joey! How's the nano saltwater tank doing?
hi, wat kind of media u are using for yours filter? k1media or k1 micro???
hey Joey, can a fluidized moving bed filter work with a saltwater aquarium? in conjunction with a skimmer and refugium? Joel
Muito bom vídeo para bens ! Aqui no Brazil temos que usar vidro porque acrílico é muito caro !
The video is already two years old. Do you still use the moving bed filter? Did you change something on the filter? I absolutely like the moving bed filter and also plan to use such a filter for my planned 1,200 liter (about 320 gallons) tank.
Can you overstock your sump with media is it good can I put my heater in the sump and all my equipment
have you ever used a router to cut dovetails into the acrylic sheets? it would make everything stronger and give you a physical bond on top of the chemical bond of the glue. i want to build my own aquarium some day and i had the though. seems like it would work just so long as you took your time with the router so it does not melt the plastic.
dose k1 filter media has to be change after long time use ? if yes when to change ? if not how to clean it ? and if we has to clean it when to clean it each month or each 3 month
Is there a filter mediabag on the bottom at 7:04? Maybe for additional bacteria? Btw. I like your Ebook!
@thekingofdiy
8 жыл бұрын
Yup, it was already cycled media. It helped with the cycle. Glad you like the eBook!
Are you thinking of getting new rays for this tank as the bottom dweller? Not expensive rays like motoros
Whats the glues name? Good videos!
Can't wait to see the plumbing
Awesome
I picked up a 150 gallon plumbed with a bean animal style overflow. Can it be used with a moving bed system?
Hi Joey, would 100L of K1 media be ok for around 350 gallons to 400 gallons of water?
does it need an air pump or can you use wavemakers to move the media? I have several wavemakers jebao style and 1 little air pump for a 10 gal that doesn't have enough flow to move the media. thanks
is acrylic that cheap over there ? here its a lot more expensive than glass a build like this would cost more than double the amount even if i do it myself than ordering a finished custom tank made of glass
@mozarth

It's expensive everywhere. It's just practical when the price difference is negligible compared to your usual spendings & income.
@yinace7

just do it with normal glass work well too
What would be the difference in using this fluidized filter rather than using lave rock in its place? Pros and Cons?
hii which is the bacteria best ph? l breading discus fish this system for discus fish is good?
does silicone still work for acrylic? or 2 part epoxy?
Hey Joey, how were the clamps being used to hold up the baffles when cementing them? It was hard to tell. Looked like the clamps were on the outside.

I have buy a 275 gallon tank, the problem is ofint know What for filtration system i gonna har i think of sump or fx6 What are you think joey

uv works for some algae. not too sure if it will get brow algae specifically tho. check his vid on the diy algae scrubber too.
@PHEARVII

adding plants can help bring down algae. you will also reduce the nutrients entering the water by reducing food waste and only run the lights for no more than 8 hours a day
Is the movement in the water done by air pump?
filtration is my favorite part
If you can, can you show us how you did the plumbing, please. Thanks!
Where i can buy bio balls. Could you tell me what is size of these bio balls. And how many of them are you using in this sump. Thank in advance
can you...show as how to make an overflow filtertion system..and pumping
you just use a portable table saw for cutting your acrylic? this is the best video yet! i may have to stop watching your videos as im watching this im pricing up acrylic.....

yup! The blade spins all the same. Just have to keep it straight and have supports.
Hey Joey, I built a 55 gallon fluidized sump off your last K1 video, but had some issues with the media getting sucked to the output side of the chamber due to the flow rate. I had to overcompensate with air to keep this from happening, would this design alleviate that issue with the holes being towards the middle of the baffle on the output side, instead of being at the top like in the previous video?

Is your handbook sold in book stores
I know this is a super old video, but can you use a powerhead to move the k1 instead of air?
What air pump do you use bro?
where do you buy your acrylic sheets from?
muy enteresente
Where did you get the square filter socks from?
How many times in a week does somebody relate you to macgyver? 😜 if the answer is less then 5x please allow me to say you are the Macgyver of fish keeping and I will purchase your book! 🇨🇦🇨🇦 Pride good sir
I want to see how the Arowana interacts with the red hooks!! Ahhh!

this will work in wet dry sump?
bro suggest me a water pump to my 8 feet tank arowana community I need a good filter n a good flow pls help me...
Not to be a safety nazi or anything, but just as a precaution from a regular viewer in case your not aware of table saw kick back zone and such things for table saws. Thanks for sharing :)
Does it sound practical to make a sump tank with both a wet dry and fluidized filter for a 150g turtle tank?
@cupcakesandchevron4395

Yes Turtles produce a lot of waste so a powerful filtration system is necessary.

+Aussie Soarer (AusSoarer) Searched Google already and found some suppliers but could only find one that listed their prices online. For example a 4×8 foot sheet of 3/4 inch acrylic on that site was over $600 CAD for one sheet. I'm wondering if Joey knows of a cheaper place to buy.
@soarer282

$600 for a 4x8x3/4 sheet seems about right from what I am seeing at our wholesalers over here in Australia.

+The king of DIY Thanks Joey, once cycled how much ammonia would you add per day/week to give the bacteria something to eat and stay alive.
I dont want to use air pump because It has too much noise. Can ı use wavemaker for circualtion. Is this the same thing ? (MOVİNG BED question)
what type of filter media did he use
Hi Joey, can you please tell me what rating is your air pump. I am having a tank built and it will probably have around 25-40 litres of k1 micro in it. I know I will need a new air pump but not sure with what size to turn over the media without it being too powerful.
@thekingofdiy
8 жыл бұрын
+Paul Newby you will need 1L per hour of air per liter of K1 to start. Once cycled, and if designed properly, you only need half that and sometimes less.
