How to build an Ottoman Bow - #6

Almost there! In this video, my bow is tillered and then covered with leather.
I don't want to give too much away, but I measured a draw weight of 76 lbs at 28" without the leather cover. By the way, I used 0.5mm thick lambskin for the protective layer and 0.4mm thick goatskin for the side stripes.
As always, the exact instructions are in the subtitle - have fun watching, leave me a like and subscribe to my channel.

I felt great pleasure and happiness in watching this Ottoman publication, which you carefully and traditionally produced, through its production stages. Also, as a Turk, I felt very proud. I am grateful and thank you very much for keeping this tradition alive and giving us the opportunity to follow it step by step. I offer our love and respect from Turkey. The real Ottoman archer.

☺️Thank you, my friend. It's great to hear that from someone who's way closer to that wonderful tradition of bowmaking than I am. It means a lot to me!!!

Man, out of all the archery channels I follow and videos I watch I have to say your channel I think i get most excited about when a new video drops. Amazing craftsmanship! I love the outdoor and nature shots as well. Not too long but adds Beauty and class to your videos (at least in my opinion). Thank you sir and I can't wait for the next one 😊

Thanks, mate - that's kind of true, but I don't mind. I guess bow making is very niche and I'm no professional. So I'm just enjoying myself and share it. But if YOU like it - I'm happy 😉. Cheers

Great work what is the leather type?

Thanks a lot 😊 - the brown main leather is lamb skin and the Black one is goat skin. Both approx. 0.5mm thick and tanned without chemicals so the color will stick. Hope that helps

Awesome bow, looking forward to the final result. I am in the process of building an ottoman hornbow too. Before the final coating, i am currently shooting a couple dozent arrows to check if the bow is holding up😅

That sounds amazing! What's your draw weight? I dry-fired the bow several times (without an arrow) inside, because we have very bad weather conditions right now and I did't want to risk getting it wet and sticky 😆

The draw weight is 70 +- 3 lbs @ 28 inches. I have read that horn composite bows start to outperform good self bows above 60 lbs. The mid limb dimensions are 34 mm in width and 11,5 mm in thickness. I built it under the instructions of the book "Ottoman composite bow" by Adam Karpowicz. Good luck with your bow! The amount of patience, time and materials costs is really another level 😅

@@alexanderklee7069 thats a great draw weight - and a great book. It's one of my sources as well. I absolutely love it and I absolutely admire Adams passion for composite bows. Right now I'm trying to find the exact measurements for an indian crab bow (a.k.a. mughal bow) - but that's quite a challenge. You got any suggestion on literature? Cheers mate

What did you use to wrap it and in the Nock insert? Looked like some type of leather.

The dark leather is goat skin 0.4mm thick and the brown leather is lambskin 0.5mm thick. The leather is organically treated/colored (the color will stick better to it). You can get this kind of leather at online shops for (historical) bookmaking. Hope that helps. Cheers my friend
