How to Build an Efficient Rail Network ║ Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic ║ (V2.0)

Ойындар

This is the new version for my train signal tutorial video for Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic. The developers completely re-worked the GUI for the game, and the original video was more of a test run anyways.
Hopefully this video will help some people to get a handle on the way train signals work. I used to be confused about them too, but I learned how chain signals supposed to behave while playing Factorio, and they have a similar behaviour in this game too.

    You and bballjo should make an advanced guide that focuses more on fixing problems (greens and purples) that many run into. Include also signal and track patterns for upgrading working rail for those that don't autobuild. How to design RCO layouts (although bballjo has a good guide on that) on complex networks.

    This is the first video I'm actually commenting on for Workers Resources (and I've watched so many) because you've done an absolutely fantastic job in editing it. I get the impression, you actually wrote the script for it too so it flowed effortlessly without any 'Ummms' and 'Ahhhs' which so many others have. Most people who do videos on here will upload a 45 min video when there's only about 10 mins of useful information, so I genuinely appreciate your efficient methods! It can be very frustrating listening to people waffle on about nonsense when all we want to do is get the information we need! I think you will definitely do well if you make efficient and informative videos like this, especially with the added annotations because it makes everything much clearer and concise, and this is what people really need right now. Once again, well done my friend. I don't know if anyone really sees the effort and time you've taken to make this so practical and useful, but I certainly do and I am sure many others will but might not comment!

    Yes, speech synthesis has gone a long way. Can still detect it by lack of variation in voice modulation, pauses and emotion. The AI also doesn't do any contextual emphasis. But it is pretty good already. Wouldn't let it read Shakespeare - but who would want to hear that anyways...

    Great video, very well explained. Might be time to redo the signals in my republic :-). In the roll-in roll-out station, what is the use of the chain signals at the end? Why not normal signals, allowing trains to depart earlier?

  • @Hmuda

    @Hmuda

    Thank you. :) Which place exactly? If you mean the two chain signals right after the station, then they are not strictly necessary, two regular signals in their place and leaving off the "exit" signal for that particular junction would give the same result. Trains wouldn't be able to leave any sooner, since one of them would still have to wait until the first train gets past the queue signal at the middle of the leaving track before they are allowed through. I just tend to reflexively put chain signal at the entrances and regulars at the exits whenever I build any form of a junction. Even if not strictly necessary in some circumstances, they don't hurt either, so might as well. :)

    @7:30 still don't understand why you would use mixed signals instead of the normal chain/normal signal combo. Chain makes sense, it checks the next TWO segments. Normal checks the next ONE segment. But mixed? What does it actually DO?

  • @Hmuda

    @Hmuda

    11 ай бұрын

    Mixed signals are the combination of a chain and a regular signal. Since we need need chain to be pointing toward the junction, and the regular away from it, we can use mixed signals if we want that piece of track to be 2-way.

    This tutorial was helpful although I still can't do trains. I do everything by road instead because I can't understand the signals fully. It would be nice if they had a mod that just allowed trains to go through each other. I'm not willing to put in the hours of studying and experimentation needed to get a railway working properly. That is work stuff, not gaming stuff.

You can still find the old version here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z6V-yqStndypk5s.html Thank you for looking out for it, but don't worry, the old obsolete version was simply delisted from search results, and now this is the current version. :)

    So 2 days trying to build rail and I've come to one conclusion: Rail just sucks in this game. I've built all sorts of setups and the trains just REFUSE to use common sense even when the semaphores are set up to allow them to do certain things without conflict. Like turning the hell around. They won't do it - even if you give them clear track and crossovers with clear signals. They just sit there and go back and forth like idiots.
