Its a hard game to learn, and all beginnings are the hardest. You send me this, and I got it going...Hope it helps you if my tutorials havent helped yet.
In this new series, I review YOUR saves! If you want some suggestion, hints, criticism, or just show of a bit, here is your chance! Get in contact with me via anything below and we make it work! Today we see a very compact setup, with overengineered train track, but not enough trains!

Awesome work I’m on tonight to fix my rail network. Making a seperate track around the back would not have been something I would have thought of. If it doesn’t go well maybe I’ll send it into you.

Good guide. One thing around junctions. You don't need the chain / block combination any more since the block signals were updated. Chains are only really needed where you have a track with trains moving in both directions along it.

You still need them for keeping crossings clear. Not the crossover tracks with switches (like: Y) but two or more tracks that overlap without connecting (like: X).

I am determined to become an expert at rail in this game.. It hasn't happened yet, but I will get there in the end. I am new to the game from 1.0, have 150 hours in it so far and still feel like a noob. If I keep watching these rail videos in will all just click one day right?... Right?... 😵‍💫

To curve, you have to connect 1 side of the road to an end piece of another road, then just drag it where you want, change the radius with mouse.

As much as I love watching your content, this was a massive oof to watch. In all honesty I think you have done a pretty subpar work, be it in terms of costs, readability for the viewer, readiness for expandions or even based on a land use. I would challenge you to a fixung duel if it was possible. You have you way, but fixing things by demolishing 2/3 network isn't a fix imo.

You know what?!? Let's do it. How about you come up with a set of rules and how to score this competition, and some criteria about what save, and we can do this for real?

  • @siriusczech

Easy criteria is cost of rebuilding (probably without a demolishion costs, just pure "how much all new rails cost" probably?). Hard ones to judge are - effectivity of operations (besides two current trains and potential RCO ones there is not much to judge) - respect to original layout and intentions (subjective of each viewer, maybe the one who sent it in could have a word?) - options to grow the network (which is more of a signalling issue then anything else) If you are in it, both takes would probably mean to show why and how are changes needed (like you did) and then present the total overhaul. If all rails are in blueprint (white) phase, simple clicking on "build for rubles" would should the total price and that is probably the only hard factor for points I am into. Rest maybe soft points from outside, probably? Because other means (besides ability to carry effectively multiple trains) are hard to come with for me based on the small footprint it has, but I am open to suggestions ;)

@janmitiska9218 that's a terrible way to judge if the "fix" is working...all that is judging is how cheap something was changed. If we take this video for an example, then I could have just messed with signals and effectively removed a few junctions and added a loop somewhere that would make everything accessible...but functionality of that system would break down when we add the first long train, so cost would almost be 0, which by your criteria would mean "great job", but nothing was fixed. In contrast the way I did fix it, cost more, but it will actually function even with many more trains on the network. You'll have to try again.

@@bballjo you are right. I was thinking about it at night cause it obviously wasn't enough. But it was late, now it is morning. Performance is the key. So lets add a second scoring part: - ass 2 trains on a line running customs->big loading station and back (something like Bardotka + 6 cars?) - add two trains running customs silo (similar consists) - add 1 train running silo cargo station - keep two current trains running without "wait for full load" - add a "personal" trainset going customs -> loading station 5 times and then back to depot and measure the time it takes it to get there (start at midnight after all other trains are out and running). So cost + Performance. That could do, right? Bonus points from viewers for how does it look 😉 Alternative add-on parameter could be a time it would take it to build with his current machinery on realistic mode, but that imho rewuires too much timelapsing

@janmitiska9218 I think we're getting closer, but I'd keep the criteria a little more generic, and I don't think this small fix is a good representation of what fixes usually entail. I'm thinking time should be a big factor. The save has a start date...we could look at key production metrics today vs 6months from today, we could use the cash on hand as an indicator on how well it worked. I also don't think focusing on a single aspect of a fix would be worth while, as nothing in the game exists in isolation, so we should fix it holisitically.
