The wire rope in the tracks is interesting. The tracks could be aluminum with rubber laminated over each individual piece.

You could make the tracks out of aluminum, would help with the weight. I weighed one of my steel tracks and the weight is 55 lbs. I have been debating on what I should put on the tracks. Rubber, wood or just the steel.

Really like some of the ideas you are using. I have been throwing around a lot of ideas to make something along these lines. I think I have the essentials of the transmission nailed down, but I am very interested in seeing what you have coming with yours. Your idea on the steering system is nearly identical to mine. I had tie rods in mind for mine, but I may try and incorporate the idea of the cables since they are a lot cheaper. I subbed and am looking forward to the next installment. :)

Hi, cool build! like your idea using a bike. I have a consern you might think of: The machine balances only on the small wheels (don`t know the english names). this gives you a shorter wheelbase than the bike used to have AND a higher CG (center of gravity). You could end up with a "rocking chair" feeling when you give throttle. A solution might be to lower the rear axle, but this might demand that you need to add some suspension. Gunnbjørn from Norway

Pretty cool. But the back roller on the tracks needs to be a sprocket like the sprocket that drives a bicycle chain. The teeth of the sprocket fit into track and drive the track. It will slip as it is now.

I would suggest the rims you are using for your front and rear main track wheels be made from rims that are just a bit larger than your track. (check out the "ripsaw track" arrangement.) this will keep the track from ever coming off accidentally my friend.

Идея привода интересна, но поворачивать ты сможешь только стоя на месте. Из-за поворотов в движении ремни будут рваться один за другим. Лучше купить подержаный редуктор, либо по отдельному двигателю на каждую гусеницу =3

hey dude just finished watching your vids . you have some good idea's You really need bushing on that . try using rubber pipe cut to size like a rad hose or other car rubber hose and use a smaller bolt. I did that on a buggy I made it worked well and made the ride way smother. im looking forward to watching your next vid.

Nice!! Love that front bumper, I don't know how mine will be yet but I'll make it something like a scorpion head if I can. Was that a jig you had the track layin on when tightening the bolts to get the spacing? The tracks should roll pretty quite, the spacing inbetween look like not that far apart, and should roll easy too I would think. Lookin great Mark. Oh, so close,LOL!!!

Thanks, I started with the light bar and just started adding the other parts as I went. Yes that was a jig that I used to help space the tracks. The tricky part is making sure everything is spaced exactly. How are your tracks coming along?

I finished drilling the holes for the bolts, worked out great with the jig on the drillpress. Now I'm grinding the chain reliefs in the plates which is going pretty quick but can't seem to find time to work on it, alot going on, but this weekend I should be on the next step, either welding the washers on the chain, or welding the track guides, bolts, and cleets in one shot. I keep saying 2 weeks on the tracks but time is going by quick till it starts snowing. I keep pushing along, trying to atleast get a rolling chasey by the beginning of December I hope.

Is the tracks for tanks always made of metal? I thought that they would be made of rubber. But metall may be a better choice or why did u choose it? Are those tracks done or maybe you will epoxy rubber on each track? U could cut up an old tire for rubber. Anyway, awesome job! This is a project all kids dream of doing when they grow up but few do. Good luck!!! I subbed....

HolyCrapAA It was easier for me to work with the metal. I was thinking of putting something on the track afterwards. I was looking at welding a piece of rebar across each shoe for extra traction. Thanks for watching and subbing.

Awesome build and channel. I'm assuming from the 307 part of your user name you are in Wyo? Also a set of fenders from an old tractor trailer might be an idea further down the road so you are a lil more safe from the track while in motion and to keep yourself relatively clean. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to see more!

I still have some of the wire mesh that I used for the floor I plan on building some guards out of that. Thanks for watching

Aceman307 HA! That was actually my first guess, for some reason. I had a Chevy pickup with a 307 in it, a long time ago. That's a pretty rare engine, I haven't come across many of those. About the only Chevy engine that I have seen less often is the 302. Don't see many 283's, either. And NO, Ford freaks, I mean a Chevy 302, I think they only put them in the '68 or '69 RS/SS. They were rated for 395hp, while the SS 396 only made 390hp. I believe they mated the 283 crank to the 327 Corvette block, with 202 heads. With that short stroke, it was a punchy little bugger.

  • @Aceman307

UNITED POLICE STATES OF AMERICA I think your right about how they got the 302. That was the great thing about the Chevy small blocks you could mix and match allot of the different parts. I had 350 heads on my 307 I stuffed it into a Chevy Monza. I pissed off many neighbors with that car. Two Thrush "mufflers" and straight pipes out the back. Good times.....

Very good work and my hate is off to u for doing something creative and fun. Unfortunately I have worked with a lot of cable rope. Cable is not a very good idea to connect tracks together with. Reason being is that the cable does not like to be bent multiple and multiple times over and over in the same exact spot, like in between your links. Although cable is strong, as it is bent and tugged on multiple times in a forceful circular motion, it will begin to separate and squeeze the oil out of the cables. Then it will fray and break quickly. Cable rope is not meant for this type of work really. Also no matter what size cable use it simply will just break because they are not meant for these type of demands In my opinion you would be better off using chain link in between your links as a connection, which is meant for this type of demand. I do like your project best of luck to you sir

Aceman307 Sorry but i might notice small problem there.. with rapid acceleration master part could get under such tress that those two bolts wont hold cable in place, also those small pipes holding tracks in place when turning, could be too small. I think when you really start to drive this, its going to most likely brake tracks in half from master link and slip tracks out when turning. I'm not hating this and i hope i'm wrong, but i wanted to point this out before you do more work in it.

  • @19882fast4u

    @19882fast4u

    9 жыл бұрын

I'm not sure to your question about ripsaw and how it was done, but I do know of the vehicle you speak of as I remember reading about it years ago. But I know cable very well. EIP cable would be your best bet if you continue down the road with the use of your cable links in my opinion. But as I've said before, it will break sooner or later in my opinion. If it was me and I had the option, I would weld 2 thick extended vertical plates of steel to the bottom of each link with a hole at each end, and then connect each of the links with a solid steel pin and locking nut and flat washer and a grade #12 cotter pin. Just my thought.

Aceman307 Another thing I have thought about, your tracks seem somewhat close together. Will this allow for good traction? Also I was thinking you might want to have some type of rib or nub per say to the top of each plate of track for traction in snow or mud, I can see this rig doing good on flat surface, but might have a problem in mud up a steep hill or so. Just some thoughts really. Good job so far.

There is NO doubt in my mind that you're "master link" is a failure looking for a place to happen. And it will no doubt happen someplace deep in the woods! Pinching that cable like that is only going to cut through the cable and what are you going to do about it if it does - replace the entire cable because it's 2 inches too short now?? You need to find a way to join the cable ends with a crimp-style splice. Personally I'd use some old conveyor belting and join the ends with a steel plate, some short bolts and some Nylock nuts. You could use a normal car tire to drive them. This design is all over KZread. Look for it. If the tires are over-inflated it will arch the middle of the belting and the belt will self-center on the tire. You don't need a sprocket for a driver then because the belting will grab onto the tires! I was with you on the tracks, until you got to the last part.
