This is an outstanding video! It shows how to build a workbench when there is almost nothing pre-existing to help with assembly. Much more applicable to a beginner. It is an important contribution. Thanks!

Second time viewing. Did not notice before that you cut that 4x8 sheet of plywood in half without a track guide. Impressive. If I did it that cut would have lots of curves. Still deciding on this project but really impressed with your video. Well done.

I am doing the same. I want the 10” due to the dado blade capability. I am looking for the saw without the rolling stand - sure, I’d like to save a few dollars but also don’t want to just waste it since I won’t use it (because I too will build it into the bench). Do you know if there is any way to buy the 10” DeWalt without the stand?

Great design - I added castors. I made it in France - they don't do 4 by 2 timber here, 72 by 45! I used two sheets of 15mm ply for top - did the cut-outs in place on the bottom sheet, then put on the top sheet after I routed some depth for the fence assembly.

At 4:30 When you're installing the lower shelves, I think it would have been beneficial to install the frame on the inside of the posts and raising the height a couple inches, so you can at least get your feet with boots in there. I made mine with the front portion where I work the most a good 8 inches shorter (back to front), so that I dont murder my shins every time I reach for a tool and my bench is 3 ft wide, not 4 ft like yours.

I like how you built this. This assumes that the workbench is in the middle of the room so you reach across from any side being 48 inches deep. For me, mine will be against a wall (but with folding wheels) so I'll limit the depth to probably 36 inches. The table saw also dictates the width.

I am also going to take Rolf Bjorns recommendations about raising the shelf and putting the lower frame on the inside of the posts. Should give me plenty of foot room. Thank you for the great video.

You made yours almost identical to the one I made with a few exceptions, basically my plywood on top I did 2 layers making it 1.5" thick and it over hangs the frame 1" from all edges of the frame, I also made mine a bit shorter so I could put locking casters to make is easily movable. and lastly I used a Grizzly Portable saw witch is almost identical to the DeWALT

John, This is not a good bench. It is a GREAT bench for a number of reasons. To begin with, I could hear every word. I have seen more work bench builds than I can count. I’m a beginner and you took your time. I learned learned a lot of general construction methods. I have a similar DeWalt table saw. Mine is the 8&1/4 (Or is it 1/2?). Seems to be a popular model. I’m sure every woodworker will make a modification but I will stay close to your design. Thank you very much!

2x4's are 8.25 for an 8 footer here in CT. It's the top main milling companies that are making all of the money. Employees are paid the same, sawers are paid the same, and outlets like Home Depot had to raise prices because of those main 5 companies charging more for the wood. Because of COVID and so many homeowners staying home, and them deciding to do improvements and projects caused companies like HD and Lowes to use up all of their reserve lumber. It's absolutely disgusting that companies already making billions would raise their prices during a pandemic!

This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble kzread.infoUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!

I'd find the appropriate locking casters and shorten up the legs by that much. This would give you a spot for your toes.

That’s one solution and it also gives you the ability the move the table around. Another is the raise the height of the lower shelf by ~4”. In the case of this project, the spacing between shelving would be reduced from 29” to 25”

This is probably more helpful to beginners, but when I work on projects, I try to plan ahead. Rather than building the whole table and cutting out everything you just put together, why not build it that way in the first place? Of course there are things that come up along the way, but if you already planned on making an insert for the table saw, this seems like a backwards way of doing it. Last thing, if you have a track saw, why did you use a circular saw and level lol

It wasn’t originally planned on being this. After a month of using it as a regular surface, I realized I could sink my table saw into it. And I purchased the track saw towards the end of the build. Definitely wish I had it all along!

Why didn't you set it in the middle? You have little support on the right side for sheet goods? I also agree it should be higher to get your feet under. A better option would be locking wheels to move it around you can still cut shims the thickness and put between wheels and 4x4.Your 2x4 leg won't be needed if centered as your lower horizontal support for the saw will go all the across.

Great question. I wanted one side more open for workspace. Plus I wanted more access to the right hand side of the saw, where I store items and have an easier time reaching the dust port.
