How to Build a Spiral Staircase and EPIC Epoxy Floor Finish: OMG FINAL

In this final episode of the Oregon Music Garage, I share our first experience building a spiral staircase as well as the epic epoxy floor my client had laid down. We built the spiral staircase kit from salter spiral stairs, and overall it was a good experience. Next time it will definitely be easier now that we know what we are doing
Wait till the end to see the epic epoxy floor finish doug from ECO Advantage laid down. It will blow your mind it looks so cool. Sorry this video took so long to edit, we wrapped this up last summer sometime.
Pretty awesome the way the interior finishes turned out. I didn't know what to expect using LP Smartside through out the inside, but was pleasantly surprised. What do you think about it?

It's great! My shed has been completed and it turned out nice looking and sturdy and it is way better than the sheds that many of my neighbors had put up. Of course, I'm pleased with the outcome and this Ryan's kzread.infoUgkxGZedDTcDfgD7fG_uU4esfx_EgxzlY2_1 Plans was extremely useful to me as a guide.

Great info! We did a spiral staircase from Salter at our house a few years back. We had the aluminum tubing for a rail. What a pain! Very hard to get it “unrolled” and bent into the correct shape. Very happy with it once it was up. Please note code calls for a 2” space between the outside of the rail and the wall. This allows someone using the rail to grasp it all the way down with their hand around it. Had to alter ours after putting it up the first time. Hopefully save someone else the headache of doing it over!

I have built a few timber spirals from scratch. A couple from kits. Also back in the 1990's I installed a couple of those metal versions but with flat metal handrail. Not too bad to do. Trimming out the circular openings was the hardest part. They look good but are pretty impractical. They don't meet modern regs in a lot of places now either.

A lot of gas station bathroom floors have similar epoxy floors, they’re becoming more popular in residential builds because of how cheap they are. Not a big fan but probably the best thing for that build.

I built one of those kits in 1999. Bought it from "The Iron Shop" in Chicago. Never did like the poly handrail, either. Put a nice brass top cap on the center post. 23 years later.. still rock solid. Still don't like the poly hand rail, but it is still like new and solid. Think I paid around $700. Would install it again, without question. BTW, my top step was square. The hand rail came out "square" with no turn in. I did not know what I was doing, I got lucky.

I was like...'damn' when that drill pulled thru...lol...in a spot like that, pull out the portaband, put bit in a vise and cut that sucker down to a stubby drill bit...tubular plastic grabs the bit quick once it goes thru...also, another reason I hate a brushless Makita drill or driver...Im a fan of the older Maks with brushes(I have 10-15 of them)...Much more variable speed control in the trigger than a brushless(I have both)...jmo...Stairs turned out great...except the obvious spindle bases not powercoated black?...always a pleasure to watch you work and explain things...even for us 'old school' carpenters who can still learn a trick or two...Have a great evening Brother!

I just installed a 5' diameter Paragon spiral staircase by myself about 2 weeks ago and it was a nightmare. Particularly because I opted for the "premium" aluminum hand rail instead of the more flexible vinyl (if you think the vinyl hand rail install was hard, try a stiff metal tube that you have to bend and hammer into shape). Some of their hardware was also out of spec. Would not recommend getting any of their custom staircases, but their cheap econo line kits would probably still be worth it.

And, you're right about the polished aluminum center mounts -- the silver color doesn't work. Maybe it grows on a person? ... Nevertheless, the mounts don't detract from the space at all -- and that floor is just incredible! Meanwhile, another great post!
