How to Build a Space Saving Miter Saw Station for Small Shops

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How to build a miter saw station for a small shop. This miter saw table is great for adding shop storage and saving space. I made this miter station only six feet long by 24 inches deep. I included a collapsable extension wing when working with longer stock.

Matt, thank you for sharing this idea. My shop is even smaller than yours and uses about 3/5 of a one car garage. My miter saw is currently on what I believe is a cabinet that used to be in the kitchen next to the stove. I added the extension wing onto my miter saw station and because I don’t have any sort of in feed table, I actually added a drawer slider so that I can extend it even further, and it gives me an extra 24 inches. Because of the drawer slider it wound up being a little beefier than your build but I love it. Thanks again. You just helped make my shop safer.

Nice and compact with plenty of storage. I love that! Especially since I don't have a lot of room at the moment. You can always get some plugs to hide your pocket holes if it bothers you that much. No one else would probably notice them, because the entire set up looks so nice.

For the exposed pocket holes, maybe make walnut dowels and plug them with that. “Make a mistake a feature”

You asked about miter saws. I currently have 2. My 12" dually slider Delta is currently at our cabin in West Virginia while I'm finishing out the cabin build. In the meantime, I picked up the 10" dually slider Bauer from Harbor Freight, and the adjustability and solid construction of that saw was a pleasant surprise. I really like it so far. Had it a couple months, and I feel like it took me three tune-up sessions to get it dialed in completely. So far it's perfect enough.

Best visual feature: featuring plywood face grain with walnut accents. Got a Craigslist Festool Kapex just completely rebuilt under warranty. I like your design but have a different set of requirements and materials on hand. I make a beeswax blend finish, too, though I recommend it only for kitchenware and intend to apply multiple coats of slightly thinned and finely sanded water based poly followed by traditional Johnson's wax to my shop furniture.

I'm about to build a workbench, but I am like a lot of people and I'm working in a very small space. My workbench has to stored against the wall of the garage so the car can be parked inside. In order to maximize the top surface area of the workbench when it's away from the wall and in use, I want to add an extension. I like the way you did yours because there are no legs to trip on, but I am concerned that my extension may not remain level if any weight above 40 or 50 pounds is place on it. I will likely sit on a stool at the extension similar to a kitchen island, so I may go with legs that fold in and I'll use leveling feet to ensure that the extension remains level with the rest of the workbench. Love the content! It gives me lots of ideas!

Nice build. Making the sides higher than the bed of the miter saw also allows you to make a zero-clearance auxiliary base/fence for the saw. Those are really useful for cutting smaller parts and reducing tearout.

Someday I will upgrade my miter saw, but for now I'm still using a 12" Delta shop master.

Loving the good word on your shirt! Great job with the workbench and the collapse-able wing extension.

Looks amazing I am wondering I plan to get the Dewalt 12in 15 imp where the slides come out the back will this stand have enough clearance on the back side or do I just space it out from the wall a little?
