My 11 year old and I built the ramp today!! We are both new to MTB and were having a good time together! Today was special, something he will not forget.

I just built these ramps and put a video up about it, thanks so much for sharing the plans! (I did credit you and link to the plans and this video in my video, of course) I made a few minor changes so mine are probably a little worse than yours but they're still riding amazing.

Great video. A suggestion though, if your going to make a pattern, you should use that same pattern for all traces. The blade width of 1/8 inch can add up fast if you you cut a board then use that same board to trace anouther and continue that process.

That's better than the plastic Jumpack Ramp! I'd still recommend a treated thin pine strip on the front of that. Wish there was an angle router to make that lip flat to the floor if I were to try that.

I see where you're coming from on the front edge, however, I don't feel it's a necessity because the 27.5 and 29 wheels can roll right over it without any issue whatsoever. Maybe if you are on a 26 or 24 wheel there would be a problem. If you do NEED it, you could rip the 2x4 with a tables with the blade canted over.

Just watched this again. Burly😁 I decided to build my own kicker ramp so I can fix my jump technique that contributed to my crash last month. I’m editing right now and should be posted in a few days. As a handy builder and rider I’d love to hear your opinion! Ride safe👊🏻👍🏻

Built mine, thanks to this awesome video! Now I need a bigger one....insert: "That's what she said" hahaha On a serious note, loving mine. My dad built it and then he decided to burn it (not sure on correct technical term) and then I painted it with my moms help! So much fun playing on this ramp, I paired it with the Landwave system!!!

If the front legs are really sturdy, there's no reason why you couldn't bolt on extensions to them, to raise the ramp a little bit.

When measuring for the radius with your tape measure, did you measure out 9’6 to your pencil tip? And did you start at one side of the arc? Great video and plans!

I think the grooves make all the difference. We used these ramps in a local enduro and the day of the race it was rainy and muddy and these ramps where NOT slick! Thanks for watching!

What a great video, AND the drawings, materials, and cut graphs! I really can’t thank you enough for making this something a regular guy can build. I do have a question for you. To make the ramp a little higher couldn’t one just make the legs longer, and increase the radius of the kicker a little, or am I oversimplifying things?

It depends on what you want to accomplish. This is a pretty mellow kicker, increasing the height of the legs without altering anything else will increase the take off angle and make it more... uh... kicky. If you like it mellow but just want bigger you will need to increase the radius, but also lengthen the ramp as you go up in height. It's all about the angle of the ramp at the lip. Let me know if you have any more questions or if I've just totally muddied up the waters!

The grass around here is so tough, it'll mug you if you aren't careful. The only thing that will kill it is about two minutes of shade.

Thank you very much. I'm using Final Cut Pro X. I thought about using Adobe Premiere but I started out with iMovie so moving to FCPX was a natural progression.

Great looking kicker! Well done. Side note, your grass looks great, but treated lumber saw dust can kill it. I learned the hard way..

I never thought of that! The grass around these parts is pretty stinking tough. Luckily the grass survived, but now I will be more thoughtful as to where I set up the yard shop!

Looks great! You mentioned making the landing ramp wider so that the kicker can be stored inside it, but it looks like the cross braces would be in the way for that. Did you manage to get them stored like that?

You know, they don't "nest" like I wanted them to because of the cross braces, just like you mentioned. I'm sure that moving the cross brace a little bit (like turning it 90°) would give it much more clearance for a cleaner nesting position. I didn't mess with it anymore after the build because they stored just how I wanted they to anyway. Thank you so much for watching, I really appreciate it!

When you traced the arc on the plywood, what distance, from the end of the 2x8, did you put the nail? 9 feet? 9' 1"?

Right about the time you whipped out the template bit, I thought, "this is my guy." Plywood is a must for skateboards. But, when's the last time anybody wanted to build a deck (or a skinny) out of plywood? Good point about the wet traction. I'm thinking some hardware cloth will save me some time vs. routing the grooves.

How do you find the traction on the landing ramp when wet please? Did you just cut grooves along the length of the planks essentially mimicking decking planks and does this give enough grip? I’m contemplating a diamond pattern or grip tape. Thankyou for the video and plans they were really good and made it very easy to build.

I use Sketch Up. I've been using it for years and I've always really liked it. It was the best thing going for woodworking. But that was when you could use a stand-alone desktop version for free. Now, the only free version is web-based and so stripped down it's frustrating. So as long as my old desktop version works... fingers crossed. I've just "peeped" your channel too. I've totally subbed.

The plans have now been updated with a bill of materials!

why didn't you stick with the plan for the first boards on the kicker. That's what I was interested in since this is really the tricky part if you wan't a smoother transition from ground onto the ramp. Especially when the groms with their little wheels hit the ramp. The design looks pretty clever, so why did you choose not to go with that?

Because it was completely unnecessary for me. As I say in the video, the 27.5 wheels that I have roll right over it. I don't ride with kids so I don't need to take that into account. If you do ride with kids, then by all means, make that adjustment for yourself.

also - did you use a plunge base router, or fixed base? thx!

Lunch Ride thanks for demonstrating the tools! I ended up using a ‘clean wood’ jigsaw blade..and it took FOREVER to cut those radius cuts! But... I didn’t need to use the pattern bit afterwards as it was smooth as sh....itakie mushrooms! 😆 I did have to use the pattern bit to match my leg cuts to the radius pieces so the top board would sit flush. Will send pic when lander done.

I used 3" exterior deck screws. How many? I... I don't know. A lot. Buy the big box, to be safe.

It's pretty heavy. Especially being built out of treated lumber. I can carry it but I usually just drag it to move it. 🤣

wasn't sure at first, thought you where going abit over board with the computer design and the tool belt etc, but I watched and the ramp it actually really good and well built. I probably still won't need a computer to design my ramps though. or a tool belt. good job.
