Many different designs for each type of project are also included. For example, there are hundreds of designs kzread.infoUgkxb2mhCug-GkCWrq69Ce2I0nM0D4QpxAqu for outdoor buildings, from small sheds all the way up to a complete stable. Choose whatever type of shed or storage house is right for you. Pick from fancy ones or more utilitarian designs.

It's literally building a box on a couple pieces of rock to get it off the dirt so it doesn't rot. Great video, I am a carpenter but too many people overthink this stuff in the comments. No wood shed last forever and if wind picks up a loaded shed then all your windows and trees will be broken too.

structurally the weight should go onto the blocks more in the center and not just on the outer edges which will make the force on one side of the block and uneven. I would make sure that the blocks stick out at least 2 inches on the outside like a foot, like all the footings they make.

Gary. No video. I did all this in 2001.. No smartphones or viable way to video. I'm not that good at teaching and doing anyway. But I remember it took me like 6-8 hrs to get 9 blocks all the same level. my forearms were killing me and that was 17 yrs ago. I've since moved, but that shed hasn't moved since I put it up. 12 X 12 X 8' high walls. 45 degree pitch on the roof. I hand nailed all the studs. I'd like to build another one someday. But now I have a cordless nailer and a lot more knowledge.. :-)

Nobody in Ontario would be crazy enough to dig down below frost line for a shed foundation. There is no harm in sitting a shed on precast concrete blocks or pads and letting the shed move about with any ground settlement or heaving. Makes it easier to relevel the shed at a later date if needed.

  • @johnterry8958

I would expect your shed to get airborne if you ever have high winds. Around here we get 70 mile per hour winds from time to time. I'm building a shed too, but I want mine securely anchored to the ground. I'm putting pressure treated posts down below the frost line so I don't get frost heaves (about 32 inches here), and I'm anchoring my shed very securely to the posts which will have concrete footings at the bottoms of the holes, anchored to the posts as well. To me it doesn't make sense at all to just sit the shed on blocks, no matter how calm your usual weather, because one day the unexpected severe windstorm may just come along.

Digging out for the block is a waste of time. Put two 4” solid cap blocks down. Over time you will lose most of the first block to settling, depending on ground type and weight inside shed. Also, if you’re going to spend the money and time to build yourself, build it on 4x6 treated skids. You’re going to want to move it at some point, most people do.

Initially you positioned the blocks inside the corners of the frame. So now when you dig, the frame will not rest on the blocks it will be around the blocks.

Getting friends to do the digging, eh?!! A friend had a driveway to build and a list of helpers organised. The concrete truck arrived on time and poured a heap of concrete, Problem was the helpers had not arrived! He had to hire a pneumatic hammer to remove the mound of concrete a few days later.

I don't like that method ... any shift in those blocks and your level is off .. those blocks can easily move with the lights hit especially when they are sitting on rocks. Use pier blocks with a 4x4 about 6 inches long ... then take the 2x6's and level them as you attach to the 4x4's ... Pier blocks are heavy and don't move that easy. But we all have our way of doing things ..

Factor in the weight of the shed. There will be enough pressure on the stones, so they would not move. I have a much larger shed installed the same way on the slope - no movement. The empty weight of my shed is more than 2 tons.

The shed I built, I used the same technique but instead of using 4 corners, I used more spots to touch the ground (x9) more pain to level but it has lasted about 5 years and no scratch, this ensures that "if the blocks were to move out of place, it will not drop, but I will allow a little bleed on the outside to avoid any light or even kick movement from moving it and dropping the shed.

This WILL be a taxable shed folks. Anything not on skids will cost you yearly in land tax. Just a heads up comment. The great wisdom of gov't also says that it can't be afixed permanently to ground (ie: bolted down). Our great beloved gov't loves the idea of these sheds rolling around through neighborhoods during extreme weather! Out beloved gov't is always looking out for us all. It has nothing to do with how much they can steal , I mean tax us.

It's an "in general" statement. Yes areas are different but in general a permanent structure will be taxable in most places in the US. Sorry I didn't structure it that way for you to begin with but "in general" I was just wanting to warn people that most (yes I said most) places will tax this. Sorry I'm not perfect like your local County Auditor's GIS system. If anything is worthless and misleading it might be this govt system that has caused neighbors to feud all over the nation (again,in general) and keeps surveyor's busy verifying 25 year old pins.

Get a posthole digger and bore down a couple of feet. Wpoden or concrete piles and level tje tops. Concrete into the holes and tamp down. With shed anchored firmly there will be less floor bounce and the shed won't blow away. Doing foundations as in this video doesn't meet basic building code. Amatuers.

Sorry.. But this looks like something that will never be able to stand for a longer period of time. That foundation looks very poor and unstable. If he could tamp down the block so easy with 1 foot, then for sure the whole thing will shift and end out of level in no time.
