Great video, super-detailed! Question: where can i find the Class 3 Stabilization Fabric that you mentioned. Can it be found in the Orange or Blue stores? I can't find reference to Class 3 ratings at either big box store except for buying massive 12.5' X 432' rolls for almost $600. Probably works great for a contractor, but not so practical for regular guys like me! Any suggestions?

Alejandro, that's a great question...we buy ours wholesale, so it's not an issue we've faced. I don't know the exact class rating of this product, but glancing over the listing it looks like it should be sufficient for a shed foundation, especially if the dirt is packed well. Alejandro Vieira, the 12.5 x 50- was that “US 200”? Was it exactly what they are talking about in this video- the 220lb tensile strength and 90lb puncture strength? I got a quote (US Fabrics Inc.) for 12.5 x 50 and it was $99.36! If you got it cheaper, would you share where you got it?

I think this is the first comment on KZread that I’ve made (and I’ve watched a lot of instructional videos on KZread!). The level of detail is great!

I've been a builder for many years and have seen quite a fair bit of sheds. The plans in ryan's package kzread.infoUgkxB7IXYxLzb_Ichhe45zM3Im5xfEiSp9vB have some of the nicest looking sheds i've seen in a while.

I rarely leave comments but felt compelled for this video as it was everything a tutorial should be, clear, detailed and concise. Like others, the video gave me the confidence and knowledge to do the project myself and for that I am extremely grateful. Literally started the project this morning with the gravel arriving at 8 am and then a trip to the blue store. At the end of the day the is site excavated, perimeter fixed and rebar in place, landscapers mat down and half the gravel in place. This old man needs a break after that! Will finish this weekend with the foundation for a 10 x 12 shed. Many thanks for a great video, truly helpful.

I've watched several gravel pad prep videos for the shed I plan to have delivered and this is the most comprehensive. It's particularly helpful in dealing with a slope, as the location I have is sloped about 4" and I was not sure how to position the 4x6 frame. Thanks, this is a really helpful video. I'm planning a 4m x 8m (~13ft x 26ft) shed as a garden office & garden room and wanted to get away from using so much concrete for enviornmental (and economic) reasons. Using gravel seems a great alternative and completely eliminates the risk of concrete cracking due to seasonal ground movements in the clay soil we have here. I'd however prefer that my building sits completely over the gravel so that the roof overhang protect the timber surround and also possibly install a narrow 100mm wide damp proof barrier strip under surround timber to slow the decay caused by direct contact with the soil. Not sure if there are any downsides to this idea? Maybe someone knows? Anyhow, thanks to the team at Site Preparations for taking time to record and upload the video - it's appreciated :-)

Hi Andrew, I don't think there are any major downsides to that plan. The main caution would be to make sure rain from the roof overhang doesn't hit the bare ground and splash dirt/moisture up against the side of your building and cause deterioration. We recommend an extra 12" of crushed stone on all sides of the shed (you may have seen that already) as extra protection. One thing, that's why it's called 'Decorative Rock' and not Gravel which is different. Also, in case i missed it, what can be used instead of #57? All of my local supply companies stopped carrying it and only have crusher run or 3/4" granite which is $$$. Great guide to get you started!

Basically you want 3/4" washed limestone or some other type of "drainage" rock. If you can't get 3/4", it's better to go a little bigger rather than smaller.

Hi Mark, You may want to adjust this a bit if it's a site that will be driven on regularly, especially with a large vehicle like an RV. Definitely make sure the area is well compacted and that there is adequate bracing if the site is sloped. It's hard for us to make a definite recommendation without having seen your specific site.
