► After seeing a lot of people skating PVC play rails I decided to investigate a bit about how they are done and we did one for the shop,
once a lot of people asked how did we make it, here it is the video of me and Moe Fisher explaining how we did it.
😀
This was filmed the same day we officially opened the shop:

Thank you! Just made my first one with the help of this video. Was super fast and easy to make. Unfortunately it was more expensive than I was expecting, the pipe cost $11 and the lumber cost $26. I used a 2x6 for the bottom, a 2x3 for the center, two 1x6 for the sides and a 1.5 inch ABS pipe.

@Ilya xx I'll look up the actual measurements since I am unsure. I've just always known the lumber I used to be called 2x6s 2x3sand 1x6s. In stores that's what they are called as well, even those that's not their actual measurements. Looking it up it seems that a 2x6 is actually 1.5 inches (3.81 cm) by 5.5 inches (13.97 cm) a 2x3 is 1.5 inches (3.81 cm) by 2.5 inches (6.35 cm) a 1x6 is .75 inches (1.905 cm) by 5.5 inches (13.97 cm)

I'm 35yo. Been skating more than 2 decades. I've been a formidable skater for a long time but may have been worried I'd look like a kook with a pvc rail. Esp, a small one. The whole being cool & gnarly thing is fun but I'd have so many more tricks with one of these. My most inspired skating happened in high school just bc I had a solid crew of 4 guys and we skated daily after school. We were influenced by the Zero, Toy Machine, & Baker team . This meant whould would take our relatively small bag of tricks and just do them as big and fast as possible. Crowd pleasers. Now that those guys barely skate I have a new small crew but we're busy with work, families, house chores so I skate alone a lot. Solo I usually don't skate very aggressive which has led to more tech tricks. Anyway, I'm definitely building one of these pvc rails asap. What's lame is I know some die hard skaters who would not approve if a pvc rail. Screw em! They spend more time w the bar then skating. Another thing I wouldn't have done until recent times was wear knee pads for larger transition runs. With those pads the knee slide is a really safe way to bail, and it's fun. Takes a little getting used to and I've heard vert skaters make the mistake of knee sliding a way when they're skating street which can be bad but they're just so used to it. I should probably get over my ego and get a helmet too. I've always shined more in transition but love skating everything. Esp after a slam on a bowl wall. . Many of those could have been avoided with knee pads. Plus I would be a much better transition skater. It's embarrassing how few tricks I have on rails. I have 50-50 & boardslip an sketchy 11 stair which was a big deal for me and my original crew. Meanwhile I still haven't ever done a crooked on anything. I suck at all backside grinds on anything street (but can on transition). My manuals are a joke. I've decided to learn more tricks and was also going to make a box that's pretty short off the ground too to learn more tricks. Thanks for making this video. That's a cool design with the angled 2+4s. Maybe good for slappies too. The beauty of your rail & my future box is that I can skate/learn with them on my street away from the really good local skaters/hometown heros. Learning new stuff can be embarrasig. Eso if it's really simple tricks like crooked grinds. I love an audience when I'm showboating with tricks I've already landed many times on something big. Even if I fall the 1st few attempts because I know have akready landed it so mant tines. In tge flip side i hate being watched when I'm trying to learn something small and simple. Most other parts of life in public i could care less what most people think of me. Also don't care if friends sees me looking like a novice bc I'm trying something new. Skaters are generally kind/supportive people, so most of this is in my heard. Who cares, I just wanna learn new stuff on easy obstacles at first.

Hey Rick and Fisher, there`s a lot of stuff that you guys did wrong when building the play rail buy that`s just technical woodwork stuff. the basic concept of the play rail itself is really cool. I love it, especially since i cant skate aggressive anymore( injured my knee once too many times) but play seems like a safe option for me. Great job guys. much love!!!!!

Lil E yes, no, yes you can if you wax it up. No if you don’t wax it up. Also PVC can rot after awhile so it may break on you one day which is why most people use VERY smooth wood (like hand railings waxed up) or metal pipes either way it’s a good idea to wax it. I Hope this helps

Thank you for posting this. Just wanted to say that it seems annoying that you second guess a lot of things your son says or correct him - especially on camera. I mean no disrespect, you asked for anything that seemed wrong, just my opinion as I can't stand when my dad does the same thing haha! All good, thank you!
