How to build a pergola... Hire 10 people to do it for you!
Would like to suggest a different title: How to make mortise and tenon joints with tools and materials that you don’t have and cannot afford. Thanks TOH

Handsaw, hammer, chisel, hand drill + auger bit. Add a circle saw if you're feeling schwifty. Done. Check out the Samurai Carpenter.

@DavidBcc you definitely can, but that's not what happened in this misĺeading titled vid is it 😂
I've been waiting for a pergola episode, but I hoped it would be how to build one and also do it attached to house because that is one of my next projects not have it prebuilt and shipped.

Check Ron Hazelton channel; he has a couple episodes on pergola
Guys, don’t be afraid to show us longer videos.....
Incredible thanks
Ah another This Old House video where the How to Build is to buy it pre-made.
Kevin comes in like a boss at the end of the first scene. #nofucksgiven
Why is dude teaching Tom about this stuff. Like he couldn’t end their entire career
4:07 Kevin: "Thank you, Bruno!" Bruno: "Yeh"
Ready to be shipped. Where can it be ordered?
The artisan's name is Bruno Sutter...where the heck is that accent from, France?

Yes, sounds French to me. But the last name is more German-like. Could also be from Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg.

I Love “This Old House”. But there was ZERO information on how to build a Pergola in this video. Disappointing
Why do you use that method for drilling the tenon? Half way through then straighten out??
@PeterBoyes76
3 жыл бұрын
Jerry Smith that is to draw it together with the peg. By angling in, he’s making the hole a little offset so when the peg is hammered in it draws the two pieces together.

Here come the keyboard carpenters....
Ohhh I see, so the safety glasses go on top of the cap.
ACBA looks like a good school.
I like the video, but this is less a "how to", and more of a "this is some of what professionals do".

@More Haters? Really! those guys are incredibly skilled, I'm not saying otherwise. I'm just saying this is not a "how to" video.

I don't think this old house has been a "how to" show since the early 90s.
How do they make the mortise and tenon joints?

Where can I get those securing base bolts from?
@arolejar

It’s by a company called Timberlinx
What's the advantage to starting out the bolt hole at an angle instead of drilling it perpendicular to the post from the start?
@qualifiedsurgeon5011

Makes sure the hole gets drilled on center (bit is less likely to “walk” around)
@tinytim9453
3 жыл бұрын
For final assembly, helps to get bolt in and once tighten down, it draws the joint (2 pieces) tighter. Just a guess.
For those of you saying this video doesn't show you how to build a pergola yourself... If you look in the description you will not find any additional information and no step by step or plans as well as no details on what tools were used.

Kevin must be taking some type of anti aging pill!
How are you going to have Roger help lift the pergola!?!? What a travesty. That man should be sitting on the side with a reclining lawn chair and case of beer.
I don't understand why these would be wanted or popular. They use up valuable footprint, are over built (you could rest a truck on that thing!), and don't offer and shade or protection. Seems.... pointless to me :-/
0:48 Buddy doesnt even know how to tighten the strap before ratcheting it up....That was for sure a waste of time and would of had to redo it. WAY too much slack. These 1 take videos are high in quantity but low in quality. Always so many silly things
I didn't learn anything.

I would never work with PT lumber without gloves. Those chemicals are dangerous and can be absorbed through the skin.
Boo... i want to know how to build one not how to buy one....
Sorry, but a pergola is the most useless structure ever conceived. Why not just bury a stick in the ground and call it something that sounds Italian.

it's the aesthetics. not use. Don't you know anything about decorating?lol
If you read these words and you are facing bad times in your life, I want to tell you that you are not alone. No one knows the day and time of the return of the Lord Jesus. Only God knows. At the same time there are many indications that we are near the end of this humanity as we know it. The main signal is not pandemics or hurricanes or earthquakes. The main sign of the end times is apostasy, which means the abandonment of FAITH. That means that Jesus will soon come to rescue those who have believed in Him by Faith. We are in a spiritual war for our souls and the final battles are being fought. SAVE YOUR SOUL You don't have to go to church or follow a pastor or keep the sabbath or pay tithing or being water baptized or speaking in tonges or do anything else. JUST confess yourself a sinner and accept Jesus by Faith as your only Saviour and express your Faith. We are saved by GRACE not because we worked for it. It is a gift of God to those that accept. It's just that easy. We christians are not better than anyone else but we simply chose to live for Him in our daily lives trusting in His words. Start talking to God and studying the Bible. Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Romans 10: 9-11 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. GOD BLESS YOU
