Hey Jason, I have a (2) Part Question here for you: Part 1: In my 'Main Gaming PC': Gigabyte B450 AORUS Elite V2/with the New RX7600XT GPU, my Plan is to Upgrade the CPU from a Ryzen 5 5600X to a Ryzen 7 5700X 3D & Swap out the CPU in the other Gaming PC,(MSI B550 Gaming Gen 3) a Ryzen 5 5600, for the Ryzen 5 5600X. Part 2: Also in Gaming PC 2, I'm going to Swap Out the GPU: RX6600 Eagle for the RX6600XT from Gaming PC 1. So my question is: Will the Proposed Upgrades to Gaming PC 2 yield any significant Performance Increases??

@jodiepalmer2404 that is a nice high end build and a huge upgrade. I have my first all white high end build with the gigabyte aero oc 4090/ 7800x3d/ 64 gigs of ddr5 ram in the white phanteks nv7 case. I would say first know what size case you want then pick a case from each brand then dwindle the choices down overtime and look at reviews online and youtube. I would say get a b650e or an x670e motherboard. I would get a 2022 or 2023 1,000 watt gold or titanium or platinum rated power supply.

I'm currently scouring for more deals to try and keep this one under 500 bucks. 2 reasons for this build. 1... I'm getting bored and I need a project. and 2... I want an emulation station that is solely for retro gaming with the ability to play some pc games as well for LAN parties and whatnot. I figure 1070Ti, Ryzen 3600, 16GB 3600c18 ddr4, and a 1 TB nvme drive, I should be able to use it for everything that it's intended for.

I will say that I have a 1440p build with a 3080 10gb and I have yet to run into vram issues. Most of the titles that seem to have vram consumption issues are AAA singleplayer ports and I just tend not to play those on release and instead wait for sales, by then they've usually brought the vram consumption down. The type of games im mainly concerned with playing on release are multiplayer games like BG3, Helldivers 2, and Street Fighter 6. I have had no issues with vram in these titles. Take vram concerns with a grain of salt and look at for the types of games YOU want to play. I play several games with very high and demanding graphics and havent had vram issues.

Can you please explain your thinking on why plugging analog audio into the front panel connector is better than the back of the motherboard? Are you under the belief that the HD audio header provides better audio than the standard 1/8" analog Jack built into the motherboard? Or what is your reasoning?

  • @PCBuilderChannel

    @PCBuilderChannel

For audio codecs ALC1200 and higher, the SOC has additional signal boost and better signal to noise built in for the outputs to the front panel. Igor's Lab has a whole writeup on ALC1200 vs 1220 that goes over this in some detail if you want a deeper dive.

@@PCBuilderChannel sweet. I will go read up. I have always been under the impression back of the board was better than front panel. Especially on cheap cases that use even cheaper cables wires and harnesses. I will definitely check out grandpa Igor's take. Thanks for sharing.

@@PCBuilderChannel It seems like this is mostly related to high impedance headphones being used with a cap free circuit. - Are we sure this provides a benefit to lower impedance headsets? How does using the front panel connections apply to someone using amplified speakers? Or a device that is better served with a line signal? Like an external amplifier/receiver? the line signal is analog audio and there is only an option on the back shield, unless the 1/8" jack [on the front panel] is one of those that offers/asks what type of device was plugged in. It might be lost in translation. but Igor refers specifically to "headset" and not all analog audio. From Igor: ALC1220:The headphone amplifier on Port-D (front panel) is a so-called capacitor-free connection, which eliminates the need for an external coupling capacitor and ensures less distortion as well as less pop effects. This headphone amplifier at port-D has a rich output voltage of up to 2.1 Vrms and can drive high impedance headphones (up to 600 Ω), which is not possible with the ALC1200. By the way, now you know why I always point out to connect the headset to the front panel of such boards! In general, however, the three (headphone) amplifiers for the output ALWAYS operate the I/O shield and the front header for the HD car separately, with Port-D always being the front connector. Well, should be. However, I have also had boards in my hands where exactly this was wired incorrectly with the ALC1220 and Port-D remained incomprehensibly unused or was wired at the rear. It is also a modern chip, whereby it is of course exactly one price and performance class below the ALC1220. The latter can also be used with higher impedance headphones, at least in the front audio, which definitely doesn’t work with the ALC1200. ALC 4080: And concerning the capacitor-free port D: Now you know why I always point out to connect the headset to the front panel, if the manufacturer has not provided a fat jack socket for the “special” audio output on the I/O shield! By default, port D is always connected via HD Audio and thus via the front panel. If this is too quiet for you, just test it in the back. One output actually always goes with the 2 volts and the automatic impedance detection. In general, however, the three (headphone) amplifiers for the output the I/O shield and the front header for the HD car ALWAYS work separately, with the Port-D always being the one with the most bang. Well, should be. However, I have also had boards in my hands where exactly this was incorrectly wired in the ALC1220 and Port-D remained incomprehensibly unused. This is then the motherboard manufacturer’s fault and not Realtek’s.

You may say, well, why not r7-7800x3d as cpu? My reasoning is, in my opinion it's overkill for 4k gaming if my friend will go for it, better to save 100-200 euro on that to get better GPU, even if he decides to go for 1440p, r5 7600 can boast more than 100 FPS in virtually any single player game, and much more in MP games. And on those resolutions GPU plays much bigger role. Also i beleve rysen 9000 series will come out soon, so i urge him just to wait to upgrade CPU down the line. In like year and a half. Ok. And here comes hard part for me. 4080/super is 1100euro in Lithuania, where we live. So it is barely fitting in that build veery barely. Maybe we can stall build for a month (buy everything exept GPU for now). To fit 4080s but im sceptica on that part. 7900xtx model i choose (Power colour Hellhound) costs 1030 euros here as i remember, it squeeses in budget. And boasts gigantic 24gigs of VRAM and is most powerful in terms of raw performance, but is abysmal at high RT, but still holds its own on mid RT which is plausable, and obviously, he can turn down settings a notch. (All he people around me grew up without Powerful PC's so it's on our blood to mix and match graphics settings). I don't like AMD's frame gen, to be Frank. (Tested both Nvidias, and AMDs) 7900xt, 20 gig VRAM - superb Bit weaker than xtx and 4080. Yeah, okay choice i think. 4070tisuper. Well, NVIDIA does better in blender, it has 16gigs of VRAM, which is minimum i would go for his build. Generlly about upscalers. I never had myself screen with bigger than 1080p res. But i heard both fsr 2.1 and dlss are good at 4k so quality of those 2 does not bother as much for now, because even at 4k all those GPUs are good without much upscale (especially in games my friend would play now) Yeah, nobody asked, but oh well... I told alot bout this planned build

@vladterekhov503 ok thanks for the info. I would say measure the case so then you can know which size 4080 or 4080 super or 7900xtx can fit in the case. Look at comparisons between the 4080 or 4080 super and the 7900xtx when it comes to blender performance etc. Also this pc will be huge upgrade and yeah i would get a lower end cpu for now then upgrade to the 9000 series later.

@vladterekhov503 I went with my first all white high end build with the gigabyte aero oc 4090/ 7800x3d/ 64 gigs gigs of ddr5 in the white phanteks nv7 case. I bought the parts last year and I only use my pc for gaming. I wanted the best and I don't have to worry about playing most games at native 2k or native 4k with or without raytracing depending on the game. I will be looking at the 5090 and the next x3d chips to see the performance gains.

I like that gigabyte always has plenty of USB ports. But the x670e aorus master doesn't have the best reviews. I did have a quick question that I feel like no one answer what I'm really asking, I bought a msi mag B650 tomahawk and paring a deepcool LS720 SE 360mm, and 5 ID-COOLING XF-12025-ARGB-TRIO 120MM fans so with the water cooler that's 8 fans Total in a phanteks nv5 case, the id-cooling fans looks like I can daisy chain 4 of them to one but idk about the water cooler. That means I would need 3 fan connectors and 3 rgb connectors to the mother board unless I can connect the water cooler and one fan together. But I don't know if I need to buy some kind of a fan connector to make it all work on my motherboard. Someone, please help me, and thank you so much!

hi. i was wondering if i should buy 7800x3d with 4060ti or 7600x with 4070. i know it may seem obvious at first glance but the games i play are mosty cpu heavy games and when i watched the benchmarks with these sets the 4060ti with 7800x3d was getting more fps in games that i mostly play. also i play only in 1920 so what do you think?

The 2nd because the first would be a decent imbalance. Plus, it would cost less to upgrade the CPU in the future then it would the GPU.

Even games that are “CPU” dependent need the right GPU to produce the desired frames in the first place. Generally CPU heavy games are just easier to run and therefore it’s even more important you don’t bottleneck a strong GPU with a weaker CPU. I would encourage you to give yourself headroom in the future by getting a GPU with enough VRAM that you won’t struggle with future releases. See our Best CPU/GPU Combo 2024 video for more on this

  • @SpoonHurler

Not for gaming... The 8600G is okay-ish value for 1080p low gaming, especially if you need a lower powered build but it is still outclassed by low end cpus paired with older but power hungry video cards. For stuff like audio production (especially if you need active noise cancelling), data based tasks that can be GPU accelerated, and other niche cases, it's a solid option. Just not for gaming currently.

@@wilsonchin5619 at 30 frames... maybe. The issue isn't the graphics cores but the latency from the system RAM, which acts as VRAM for the graphics cores combined with APUs gaving less cache, so you don't get consistent fast frames, which is okay if you don't care but for the same cost you can get 50-ish better performance at 1440p

@PCBuilderChannel well they are the same brand, model, speed, CL. Everything about them is the same but at the corner of where the specs are it says "ver". I'm guessing "version" but not sure. I tried looking up as much as I could about it. Even asked chat gpt. Best answer I could find is "eh should be fine". Just a little confused. To be more specific on the specs, they are both corsair vengeance lpx ddr4 16GB (2X8GB) C18 3600MHz 18-22-22-42 1.35V BUT the difference comes to the ver. One is 4.33 and the other is 3.32. Checked the bar code on the back and they both match each other. Bought them both at best buy but they didn't have any 4 stick kits so I had to get two 2 stick kits. But that was the only difference I could find on them. The PC runs great and does recognize 32GB but was just curious if it could be an issue down the line
