How To Build A Mobile EV Charger

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Building your own mobile EV charger is easier than you might think. Spending $10,000 on a commercially available mobile EV solution is absurd when you can do it yourself for nearly one third the price while using better components.
Here's the breakdown of the components we used, where we got them, and what we paid:
Westinghouse Wgen12000c Generator - Purchased from Amazon - $2483.48 with taxes Delivered
Tesla Universal Wall Connector 48A with 24’ cord - Purchased locally from Tesla - $646.99 with taxes
NEMA 14-50, 6’, 6 gauge wire - Purchased locally from Home Depot - $35.99 with taxes
If you want to prewire and run the Wall Connector at 48A refer to Installation Guide for wire spec for that application.
Sigma 3/4” Rolex Connectors, quantity 2, Purchased locally from Lowe’s - $3.27 with taxes
Since we intend to run the Wall Connector on our Mobile Charger at 48 amps the 50A breaker in the front of the panel was upgraded to a 60A unit to maintain no more than 80% continuous load on the breaker. In your build if you wish to plug in to the 50A plug in the generator panel the Tesla Wall Connector can be commissioned no higher than 40A, 50A circuit
Carling Technologies 60A Breaker - Purchased online from Grainger - $84.20 with taxes delivered
also 10 Pack of 6 AWG 1/4 ring terminals needed to make connection in the panel
We’ll throw in about $25.00 in miscellaneous stainless steel fasteners needed to bolt things together.
Grand Total - $3278.93
With a few hand tools, a drill, and some ingenuity you can build a powerhouse of a Mobile EV Charger for yourself.

You covered all the bases, people usually charge at 48A using 14-50 or use the wrong conductors. Great to see it done right. It's probably worth the extra work you did to get it charging at 48A. When you're roadside, you want to charge it as fast as possible so you can limp the car to the next *actual* charger.

I'm in Austin. I recently purchased a 10k watt dual fuel (12k gas, 10k propane) generator. My 2001 dodge ram runs propane, my portable generator runs propane. The plan is offer the greenest mobile charging you can get. Using Dewalt Level 2 charger.

So in 30 minutes, what percentage would roughly charge the EV battery if it’s dead on the side of the road. Thinking of a business mode and how to price the calls.

Another great video I have the gene in your video. The only thing on the other brand gene's is make sure it is nuetrally bonded for them to work. The westinghouse you have comes nuetrally bonded from the factory.
