This video shows how to build a garage / workshop front start to finish. This step by step 20x24 garage tutorial features a 9 ft insulated door to the front, as well as a man door, for easy access. In addition, this diy garage has two large windows, one on each side of the construction. I also made a partition inside the large workshop for a bathroom, running all the plumbing and electrical cables. I will show you that in PART 2 of the project.
We used concrete and rebars for the foundation. We build the walls with brick blocks and mortar. The roof is made with wooden beams and boards. The garage has a metal sheet roofing. We also insulated the exterior of the garage with 4" thick graphite polystyrene insulation, so I can use it as a workshop during the cold winter days.
This construction features 2 different area. The first area is to park my car and protect it from the elements. The second area is for my woodworking workshop, where I will store my tools and build projects. I will probably install a wood fired store and AC to heat the workshop.
Overall, I really liked this project that took 3 months from start to finish. The total costs for this project exceeded $10000, which was a lot more than I anticipated, but the doors and windows were very pricey. For example, the man door and the 2 windows cost $1500, while the 9 ft garage door with automation was $1000. The metal roofing was about $1500, as well. The materials for the insulation were close to $2000.
