How To Build a FULLY CUSTOM Train Station in Cities Skylines 2!

Ойындар

With the recent addition of a big railyard to Easthaven County, it's time to expand its train network with a direct line between the cities of Westpoint and Chowder Bay - and to do that we need a new station in Westpoint. But instead of opting for the train station asset, we're going to build a fully custom train station with the help of developer mode and mods! We're also building some pretty complex infrastructure to connect up the two cities! Hope you enjoy!

28:20 believe it or not most roads in the US are actually pretty safe at least when it comes to freeways. If anything those curves and grades on that bridge wouldn't pass any us standards as most US semi truck brakes tend fail and result in runways if they go down a hill with grades above 5% at any speed above like 50km/h lol.

@@TheSergeantWaffle not a bad idea, but what if...and im just spitballing here...what if...in the realm of hypothetical contemplation, one might posit the notion that the verisimilitude of a certain model or simulation could be markedly heightened if, by dint of careful consideration and meticulous attention to detail, the train lines therein were to be adorned with a hue of purple. This particular chromatic selection, one might assert, bears direct correlation to the commuter rail system extant in the state of Massachusetts, whereby the aforementioned rail network is notably characterized by the distinctive coloration denoted as purple. In the overarching context of urban transit systems globally, the convention of employing discernible colors for delineating disparate lines is a ubiquitous practice, facilitating expeditious identification and navigational acumen for the denizens therein. Ergo, the judicious integration of the aforementioned veridical detail, specifically the attribution of a purplish tint to the train lines within the model or simulation, may, in effect, contribute to an augmented sense of authenticity and heightened engagement, particularly for those cognizant of the intricacies inherent to the local transportation infrastructure of Massachusetts.

From a historical context, it makes sense to have a gazebo at a train station. It used to be an occasion for someone to return from a long train journey. Families and friends could come out and use the gazebo to celebrate their arrival. I like what you did with the custom train station. I only wish a small town train depot asset was available in game so you didn't have to do all this tedious work tricking the game into something it should have by default.

Some things I’d love to see you implement are a high school sporting complex. Coming from growing up in a community such as this, the high school sports are a huge deal for these communities. They turn into big events that everyone goes to even if you aren’t related to anyone school aged. The entire town shows up for them. Especially if there are rival games. Maybe if you create two competing school districts to be rivals within their tight county. That would be really cool to see. The other thing I would find really interesting is a cruise port. I know that in real life it is located in Boston but because of the quaint town and archipelago of islands, this could make for a great destination for a cruise port. Can even lead to story progression with the need to add in trams and other local transportation and attractions.

Specifically I can see the redevelopment of the chowder bay harbor being a great place for the port because of the historic old town being a great attraction for tourists and can lead to a higher density redevelopment of that whole harbor for high rise condos and other cool modern buildings around the port next to the historic old town center. Also would be cool if we can find a way to place a specialty building to be the county seat and specifically if it could be near the port old town to expand upon that mix of historic and modern architecture near the newly developed port.

One cool additional detail for the custom bridge could be a pedestrian path or pedestrian road on at least one side of it. There are small bridges like these all over New England and the Northeastern US and most have dedicated space for walkers or runners (and cyclists, but that's not in the game yet. It would be cool to see all three being used simultaneously in the game!

also when using the invis roads, use snapping to connect to other invis roads, but always turn snapping off when connecting to normal roads and slide it up to the road until it connects (the 2 green lines connect to the road), if you have snapping enabled when connecting to normal roads, it does the connection into the road too far and causes issues with vehicles doing crazy stuff although yours look to be behaving ok, but thats the general rule, as many have found their vehicles doing crazy stuff, i think FewCandy had issues too

Sweet... you may want to take a look at the Hangaround Area for the "platforms" and there's a Greenhouse asset that works well for part of a station building (mixed with a L% low commercial). Some carports also work nicely for station shelter components. Dome and I managed to get some nice looking stuff done (there's pictures over on the "showcase" on the Modding Discord). So, custom airstrip next then? ;o)

the highway node looks terrible, sry. you should rebuild the intersection. the train station turned out really cool. i need to try this. there might be a problem for a station on the opposite side. meybe you'll need some kind of overpass so the passenger can reach there.

Hi! I have not encountered a lost save due to using invisible paths or roads, but I recall reading somewhere that you should not connect them to paths within assets, as that may cause issues :-)

@@Infrastructurist yes I know this, but in my last save, I used it only for parking, unfortunately it started crashing again, I lost my saves 2 times because of this :)))) Anyway, thanks for the video, I will definitely make such a station in my city.

@@heavyhauldude9914 For example, in my 2nd project, I wanted to make a European-style custom city, I did it by putting polpabble houses and making custom parking lots, I spent almost 1 hour for the first stage, then it crashed as soon as I started the game, and then it happened the same way every time I tried, I started the game and it crashed after a few seconds,

@@--h1Your problem is connecting invisible paths (road and/or ped) into growables (i.e. zoned stuff). When the zoned whatever (office, house, shop, etc.) levels up then the underlying configuration of the prefab is likely to change. If this happens when there's another invisible network connected to it then boom! is often the result. Make sure you don't actually connect the invisible stuff fully into anything growable, like you shouldn't fully connect invisible roads into "normal" ones, but rather you need to bring them close and let the "legs" extend themselves to make the connection.

@ 31:00 you deleted some grade crossings and while I understand that they're not as prevalent in Europe as in NA, the US has a LOT of grade crossings, and you actually kinda deleted the most reasonable ones. The trains have to be going slow already anyways for the train station so it's not uncommon nor unreasonable to see at grade crossings near train stations (specially because train stations tend to be near denser areas)

@@heavyhauldude9914 To be clear, I'm ok with using Anarchy, but it's the way it's used here that makes me cringe. Yeah, 5m is a typical clearance for a truck in the US, but if I'm watching the video, and I can easily see that a truck in-game won't fit, then I think it's a fair call out. In CS1, you had to have 12m clearance to prevent street lights from popping up through your overpassed roads. Totally ridiculous, but you could do that height and still make it look good. This is ridiculous on the other side of the spectrum.
