How to Build a Dyson Sphere - The Ultimate Megastructure

If humans want to expand into space, it will take us incredible amounts of energy. How do we do that? Easy: we will just use the sun’s energy by realizing the most ambitious construction project in history. This is how it works.

Sometimes Kurzgesagt make the dumbest videos like this one . No civilization would go to the trouble of making a dyson sphere when you can just make a computer to simulate the universe and the simulated occupants of said universe would never grow old , be sick or die ...that is why we don't detect Aliens because they shed biology long ago .

When I was a little boy and I learned about solar power I often would think about how pointless it was to have solar collectors on the ground when we could just have them in space! Even better if we could have them around the sun itself! I never had a word for describing this until I was in high school when I came across the idea of Dyson spheres I got disappointed it wasn’t an original idea but also super happy someone else thought of it too and became super curious about far-future technologies ever since! Dyson spheres are my favorite!

@@sw1tch327 The abysmal efficiency, recyclability, and maintenance of solar panels and the difficulties we would also have with capacity when it comes to storing that power. On the one side. We might not need huge capacity if we can solve the problems with Solar energy. Solar Panels lose efficiency as they heat up and their efficiency is rather shit to begin with. But if we could develop solar technology that would allow us to control how much energy we take-in, whenever we need it. Then we wouldn't need to have an incredibly advanced energy infrastructure. That said. Without that advancement. We need a good way to direct as much solar energy into the energy grid for storage for when it's needed. Batteries are essentially already at their best efficiency that we can actually get them. There's pretty much a chemical limit. So we can't just make a super-grid of batteries. They're expensive, volatile, inefficient for our purpose etc. Super capacitors have the problem of having even less efficiency than batteries but they can output charge much faster. Not really fit for purpose. Perhaps we'd find ways to use any excess energy that we harvest when it's not needed and pump it into a mechanical system that would allow us to convert later on. I'm spitballing here but yeah. There's a boatload of issues with just receiving the energy. Let alone setting up the infrastructure that builds the thing.

@@sw1tch327 sorry to necro here, but my concert is he said mirrors to direct to a place. If that place is on earth then we are going to fry the earth before the end. Even if we dont, if the mirrors have a glitch that much energy focused in one place could demolish any city (magnifying glass and ant). So we focus on an object in orbit, how do we get that energy here? We don't have a way to efficiently transmit energy across space. Right now the only way they can think of is lasers, and again with that much energy a bad actor could demolish a city. There is also a massive amount of energy lost to the atmosphere and then again with solar. The mirrors have to be able to direct in unison to a point. How are we going to do that? Not to mention it has to get into orbit, but the mirrors will act as solar sails. If we use the force of those to keep it in orbit then we run into the issue of sun spots. Then how do we rotate the mirrors to remain focused on earth? Can't be gas we would run out on the mirrors before long. Maybe some gyroscope, but we would have to have billions of satellites working in unison

Solar panels are not as efficient as we think :) They're still heaps better than fossil fuels at not destroying our planet, but it's still not good enough for very, very big energy generation. Ah, but you see, that competition is EXACTLY what will bring about ALL of the necessary technology to do this. A competition, if not a space war of shattering mirrors, would be behind this. Ultimately, each nation would have portions of the Dyson Swarm and try to dominate the others' mirrors. This is superior to a One World Government, for two reasons. 1. A true NWO, where all the earth is under one body, would be totalitarian and its politicians would be permanently unaccountable simply because of the sheer size of the earth and its population. It is not possible, and never will be possible, to subjugate eight billion souls (let alone trillions) under one global polity without enslaving them. This is doubly so if man wanted to use a Dyson Swarm as one unit instead of a divided access among squabbling nations. 2. For the world to end, the earth will either unite and THE Antichrist will take charge eventually, or THE Antichrist will do the uniting. Once the earth is united, man's temporal existence will be ticking down to the end of all things.
