    I've already told you I very much enjoy ur videos!! THIS video came at the right time!! I'm in need of a sewing table, not wanting to spend a lot of money (LOL) my husband had convenieced me to clean off several concrete blocks in the back yard and we would get a piece of wood for the top!! A solid piece of wood alone was going to cost close to a hundred bucks!! Neither of us "really" knowing how to work with wood (all that I do know I've learned from you) his idea, was going to be the only choice I had!! Now with this video and plans I can get from ur web - I myself can do this!! FOR LESS MONEY!!!! Without using the tilted saw (for the sides of desk) I could put two straight pieces in there, right? We have the saw that u cut the rest of the wood with. Oh I don't have the piece that makes hidden screw holes - but that's ok!! I have stain and varnish left from an old project!! Thank you thank you so very much!!!

    Always impressive! So many clever touches in this video, up to and including splitting the window in two during the sponsor segment. With the build continuing in one window, and the segment running in the other, we get the sponsor's message without any break in the action. Elegant and seamless. Great job, Glen!

    Desk looks good. Best way to mate the 2 halves together is push them against each other, clamp them down and run the skil saw along the join - then they will be exactly parallel and should be a perfect join.

  • @darkviris

    @darkviris

    6 ай бұрын

    Interesting thought for getting a perfect join. Both pieces receive the same cut one on each side of the blad in this manner. Do you have experience here as I haven't seen that done anywhere? I am wondering on the safety of execution in this manner.

    @@darkvirisI tried it out and it worked great! The key to remember which I should have thought of it before I did it is to clamp them to the work surface and not to each other. I made that mistake and had a scary kickback.

  • @waynerowe8477

    @waynerowe8477

    @@darkvirisI came here to ask something similar. I’m so glad the hive think responded. Kickback did not come across my mind until I read your comment. As below said, I think clamping to the base or as glen said, a table saw would be the options. To your question though, there are a few vids on long side joinery like this.

    Love your videos. Clear and easy to follow. This is a great desk. One tip to make your life a little easier joining up the top. If you have it close and just want to match your joint perfectly, push the two pieces together and take your saw and "cut" the joint. Try to get your blade half on each piece, in a single pass. That way even if your blade is slightly off 90, they'll match perfectly.
