Blow thru carbs use to be my thing, I had a blast but eventually switched over to EFI. Here are some of the things I did to do a basic blow thru carb. Not a lot to it, but just take your time and understand they basics of it. Maybe this video will save some of you guys some headache if you are trying to do a blow through carb.

    The way it works in my mind with all this is, you need to accommodate for boost in the intake because the carb, so long as it's able to supply the fuel, will supply it. In order to maintain fuel, you need to get a solid float that won't collapse upon itself once the bowls are pressurized as well as enough fuel pressure (Which could be accommodated with a higher pressure fuel pump and rising rate fuel pressure regulator as boost rises). The increased fuel pressure will counteract whatever boost pressure you're running so long as the pressure of the fuel in the lines going to the bowls exceed the boost pressure acting upon the bowls from the turbo's intake tract. This is a rough estimate, but I've only been looking into it for 15 minutes when considering the G54b in my Pick-up truck. Thinking of converting some of my used Starion parts I won't be re-using on it in the pickup truck. I don't think I'd wanna use the 16g on it though, or at least keeping it dialed back, as the 16g would be efficient passed 15psi and that's just overkill for a small 4x4 pickup truck, as I'm just looking for a slight boost in torque and turbo'd the engine made just under 200hp with roughly 220ft.lbs at only 2500rpms on a pretty inefficient TBI setup.

    Man, this stuff is gold to someone running Carbs, i pulled my hair learning some of this stuff, one of the problems that got me was the stupid o rings on the needles were leaking and allowing fuel to flow past when the bowls were full.

    Throwback for sure. I ain’t heard the name Brent in many years he was always trying new stuff. Tyson was flying back then with the silver mustang. Also Lutz when he was blow thru. And that Billy with the stock bottom end 302 twin turbo maroon coupe from Texas. We had a nice grudge car here I built stock bottom end 302, mp70, non intercooled and one of Kevin’s 750’s mid 9’s all day hanging the front wheels made us some money. Fuel system was key and that 13202 regulator with the -10 return

    Sergeant, Roger! Moving, Sergeant! I will be using with the Holley Terminator X EFI instead of a Dominator flow through carb. I just don't care to do all that work, and then still have to tune it as well. Especially since mine is a 468 cid with twin 88's...no. Let the computer do it. However, I am also using F.A.S.T. on another engine due to it's laptop interface which I think is very cool in regards to dialing in exactly what is happening in that engine. Great video Brother I learned new stuff!

The APD is on my son's 540 f1x-12 making 1500 ft tq 2200 rwhp and my the IRD is on my 540 f3-136 and both setups are as responsive as efi. Pretty great video, dude. Only problem I'm faced with when it comes to doing this is I'm converting an EFI Hyundai V6 to Carbureted. I'm gonna have to spend some money on a custom manifold and figure out a stand-alone ignition since there's no slot for a HEI distributor. 😅 Motor and Trans of choice on my project truck is a Hyundai 2.7L with an adapted Torqueflite 727.

    Awesome Video, was waiting for this one. Planning on a Single Turbo Blow Thru on my BBF When you were talking about the Longer Vent Tubes, you were comparing them to the Pitot/Static Systems on Aircraft. Actually i know exactly what you mean, i work on Sikorsky Blackhawk Military Helicopters. Awesome Video, my buddy ran a CSU Carb years ago on his F-2 Pro Charged 81 Malibu, he was Always on the Turbo Mustang Website, said it was pretty much the Only Blow Thru Forum out there. Very informative, i have a few metering blocks laying around in the garage, gonna practice on drilling them out. Was wondering if you can do a Video on how to determine the Best Size Turbo for your Engine. I have a 521 Stroked 460 BBF in my 86 Mustang. Currently N/A through a 1000 cfm 4150 from Patrick at Pro-Systems. I don't run a specific class, but run 275/60 Drag Radials. Was thinking 98-106 mm Is there a Specific Formula that you do ? Or do you just get let's say a 106mm and basically Tune it with Different Size A/R of the Exhaust Housing ? Any Advice is Greatly Appreciated.

    Good luck, rpm is gonna be your big issue with a single turbo. The compressor wheel is important, but you will for sure need a large frame G-trim wheel for that many ci. I would get a 106 or 118. The G trim normally comes with a 1.32 or 1.50 housing, you will have to play with them. I ran a 1.50 on my 421 and it was good. I have a 2.0 for a g-trim wheel if you needed one that big. I would call Jose at Forced Inductions and see what he recommends.

    @@TurboJohnRacing Hey John thanks for the Reply and info. Was definitely thinking which would suit me better, the 1.32 or 1.50 A/R. Didn't think about 2.00 A/R I'm up in the North East and we don't have many 1/8 Mile Tracks, just 1/4 Mile. I've seen some Exhaust Housing 1.00 and around 1.15 i believe. I know the Smaller A/R would help down low, and 1/8 Mile. Since i Only run 1/4 Mile, probably gonna need Atleast 1.32 - 1.50, Gonna look into 2.00 A/R like you said. Jose at Forced Inductions Name has come up alot, lot's of people highly recommend him for Turbo options, I'm definitely gonna contact him about my Turbo recommendations. I know you said with a Large Single rpm can be an issue. I'm turning 7000-7100 rpm right now with my N/A 521 BBF Combo. Thanks Again for the info. I really like Garrett Turbos, would love a GTX5533R if i go with a 98mm or a GTX5544R which comes 102 or 106mm. Would love one of them with there Ball Bearing Design, they get a little pricey for my Budget tho. But will definitely get in touch with Jose. Actually running a Modified Garrett on my 6.0 Powerstroke Truck (Tow Vehicle and Toy) from KC Turbos, and i Love it. Greatly Appreciate all the Advice you helping me out with. One question for you, what was the reason why you went with LS Power in your Mustang ? Are you Chevy guy ? I was Born and Raised in a FORD Family, pretty sure i was conceived in a 1965 Mustang Fast Back. Had my 1986 Mustang since 1994, had original 5.0 when i bought it, then built a 1969 351 Windsor, then a 1972 351 Cleveland, now a Stroked 460. Just wondering why No FORD in yours ? Thanks again Buddy.

    6:50 Instead of messing around drilling, tapping, soldering, drilling, resoldering, redrilling, making air bleeds and jets out of brass set-screws, and all that jazz, it's just WAY easier to go out and buy yourself a pair of fully adjustable Billet metering blocks. They aren't that expensive today, and they save a WHOLE lot of frustration, and screwing around, versus trying to modify old ones with no provisions for adjustability.

    Instead of just drilling the Main well to a straight drill hole, use a #3 tapered ream from McMaster. It keeps the velocity up. Also if ur installing only a few boosters u can hold it in with just a screwdriver tapped in between the bore and the banjo

I’m fighting should I turbo my 383 sbc and get a fi tech, Holley sniper and learn to tune while I build my big hp ls3 Holley efi setup like you got. Or should I do blow thru on my 383sbc and enjoy my car while I build my ls3 and learn just the turbo side of doing things! Want to into the turbo game but not sure how I should start. The 383 is a a good running setup as is , it’s stupid fast for the parts in it!

I'm sure if someone was to spend enough time on this like you did it would probably be better to build one, but it seems like a whole lot of stuff to learn and to test and tune and really learn how to do it. Either way thanks for posting this because I gained something from this video. someday I may try to build one, I still have too much to learn about turbos and tyring to do do this would overwhelm me. hopefully the ones you can buy already done will work good.im sure they would do ok to good.

    Whats your opinion for a electric fuel pump and methanol fuel. I have a aeromotive a1000 pump and just picked up a c&s dual needle seat carb for methanol...do you have to run a mechanical pump at 20psi boost range

    Yes, it is. The regulator has to be able to raise fuel pressure based on boost pressure.

    Hey man. Where did you put your boost gage? I’ve got mine Teed into the BOV line from a 1/8’ NPT hole in my carb spacer. I can’t get the AEM boost controller to read boost over 1 pound.

  • @ldnwholesale8552
    @ldnwholesale85522 жыл бұрын

    EFI does not solve a lot of problems. Though I do not use boost. Proven though that a good set up carb will make more power than any electronic carb [throttle body] and also 8 nozzles in the intake. With a simple throttle body. Multi stack should be better though often no better, though generally more drivable. But that costs about carburettors! I agree with wide band though.

    i was always taught the fuel flows through the main jets by gravity. the level of fuel in the emulsifier tube is always lower than the level in the fuel bowl. flow through the venturi booster causes negative air pressure in the emulsifier tube but imo it is not enough to pull fuel through the main jets.

  • @TurboJohnRacing

    @TurboJohnRacing

    4 жыл бұрын

    You could be right. The fuel level in the bowl determines the level of fuel in the emulsion cavity like you said. I would think it would be the same height. Just like when the fuel is too high in the bowl it will flow out the booster and vent tube possibly. Wonder how much the Venturi actually sucks? If the fuel level was really low in the bowl hypothetically, just above the jet. Would it still pull fuel through the booster!

  • @axlegrind4212

    @axlegrind4212

    @@TurboJohnRacing the reason i say the fuel is lower in the emulsifier tube is because that's where the raw fuel starts to become aerated into a vapor. there is likely some suction from the v-booster on the main jet but since it is a restriction it's very little, imo. the vacuum in the e-tube is going to assist the gravity flow, tho.
