How to Bring Life to a Green Landscape - PLUS New Fixative Demonstration
Welcome to this pastel painting tutorial where I will once again tackle a mostly green landscape for month's theme and paint some sweet sheep in a lovely meadow of green.
I use a variety of magenta and pinkish tones for the underpainting to give it a warm initial layer, but not the typical red or golden undertones. I wanted this to feel peaceful and the cooler reds seemed to do the trick.
During the painting process I accidentally got some water on the surface which is a "no no" because it is not a water-friendly surface.😝 I experimented with a remedy using a new fixative and I was so happy that it worked!😁 You'll see this process in the lesson.

I saw your KZread short of this video and was so impressed! For once, I finally understood the point of underpainting...bc I could see traces of it literally & hoe some areas the color altered the second color! TY !!

Congrats on the li’l guy!
I have and have used the sennelier fixative. I like it. Love this painting! And such a handsome little man ❤
Great fix for that spot, Susan; you also could have added another sheep there, or maybe small white wild flowers here and there? Loved this painting, thanks.

Love the idea of adding some wildflowers! Thanks so much, Renee!
Another wonderul lesson, Susan! I really like this series. Thank you so very much. I enjoy seeing you create depth with the different colours. And that fixative...What a good find! I was always frustrated that other fixatives made everything darker and duller.

Thank you! 😊❤️☺️❤️
Susan, I had that same issue with LeCarte. The pastel tends to fall off. I often mat paintings and put in a clear bag. The dust fell all over the mat. I liked the look, keeps you loose. But I haven’t used since.
What a beautiful & inspirational painting Susan, thank you, I'm looking forward to the next one. A lovely video of your first grandson you must be very proud ♥

Wow!!! Thank you so much, Corinne! Bless your heart!
Super tutorial! 👏 Clarification...do you only recommend using a fixative over problem areas...avoiding the whites? Not the entire piece to seal it?
@monetcafe
Жыл бұрын
That is correct…. I typically never spray my final painting because of darkening . I do use it during the working phases however. I’m still going to play with this new fixative and I’ll be sure to share the results.

@@monetcafe Thank you! I rarely work in pastels. I dabble now and then though so reviews and tutorials are extremely helpful.
