Thank you Bear! my garage door's gap was not as wide but with a wire coat hanger (with a 90 degree twist) and some "fishing" made it work.

I’ve had to use this video twice in the past six months - tip from a (unfortunately seasoned) pro, lol, if your garage doesn’t have windows, use a phone camera in the crack to find your cord

After watching video I was able to get into parents garage like a pro in a matter of minutes. I lucked out and didn't have to pull rope through crack in garage. The rope unexpectedly got snagged on the slim Jim and all I had to do was tug to release the latch. They haven't been able to get into garage for about a year. I only just found about that. Thanks for your great advice

unfortunately, my wedge and all other tools are in the garage.

I was thinking about running the power cord to the garage door opener to the outside so I can connect it to the inverter in my truck when the power goes out. Instead I got results like this. Not complaining this is good to know.

Most garage door openers/cords are much further away from the actual door. But in the event it's close like this one. Just tape the cord up to a non moving part, like the shield of the opener light.

With a long enough stick you can reach most. Tying it up to prevent a break in will work but then you lose the accessibility to disconnect when needed. These designs need to change so that it is not so easy.

When the door is shut the cord is right there..

Wow, just used it took me 3 minutes!!. I spent six hours looking for the remote that is in the garage.

Cut the t handle off of mine still have rope but no knot or t handle on the end for the rod to grab

What about a pry bar from the bottom?

Best invest in a garage door opener with a battery backup like Chamberlain model you can get them for under $200. Comes complete with a 5-year backup battery. Get yourself a 2x4 and place it above the inside top rim of the garage door so it makes it harder (not fool proof) for a thief to get get into your garage. Good luck

Battery back packs fail too. My Chamberlain lasted about 4 years and I wasn't prepared to sink another $60 into a battery pack you rarely use. Best investment avoiding this situation is a $30.00 Key Emergency Release kit, easy to install cost effective and works well.

what if there's no handle

Yeah but Bear, what about the garages with a key lock in the middle of the garage door, which shifts two rods horizontallly into the door frame at either side of the garage door. Know what I mean? Ive lost the key. Gonna cost a mint. I don’t even know the right terminology for that kind of garage door. Any help!?.

1. Easy work for a locksmith to pick the key, and turn the handle 2. If in a hurry you could drill the tumblers out to be able to turn the handle 3. Make a spare and keep it in the house/car

And now you can take measures to prevent it. You take the cord off and you just wont have the quick disconnect.

So if I put a crow bar under the door and have some Body else lift will it open
