im a beginner in making bows and have made only one that lasted a few days. made it from green wood without any bow making knowledge. it broke due to me not tillering it at all. im going to my cottage this summer and will make a better bow with these tips that have helped me understand why my last bow broke. i have gained a good enough understanding through your videos to make a better bow! Great teacher indeed.

Watching that bow bend all the way to failure was incredible and sad at the same time! Would have been fun to have a second camera watching you as you pulled it all the way down. Thank you for another great video about bows for the community

Filming bows on the tiller is one of the hardest shots, as you definitely know. Any camera placement that looks right is just in the way and I’m lucky to film anything on the tiller where i’m not bumping into the camera

Awesome video! I hastily bought a maple board from the hardware store, which had a wavy grain pattern. During the rough out I saw islands throughout and knew I was in trouble. I had never tried to recurve a bow before and when I went to recurve the tips, the tips snapped (by the second tip, I was just practicing my heating method).

I made recurve black locust short bow out of heartwood. Now, I wuld like to put sinew on it, but I am afraid to make scratches on bowback in ordr to weakining it. On the other hand I am afreit to put sinew witout making scraches beacause of possibilites of ungluing and falling of sinew layer. Wuld You please give me your`s oppinion?

I don’t think you need to scratch it, but I’m not the most experienced with sinew. Almost all my bows are self bows

  • @VSci_

Sand the back lightly with 80 or 120 grit. Use acetone or dawn soap and scrub the back good to strip any oils. And use REAL powdered hide glue to apply the sinew. Size the back with a thin layer of hide glue, wait 15-20 minutes, them start laying your sinew. No need to rough up the back. Check out the bowyers Bible for more details. I've never had any sinew de-laminations since I switch to real high quality powder hide glue. Before I used titebond liquid hide glue (phony, stay away) and powder gelatin and they did not work as good.

Can’t really trust other people when they tell you their draw length. That’s why I don’t let anyone shoot my personal bows Anyway, I cant tell if you’re joking but the point of the video was a torture test to failure. Simply to show that bad woods are useable with some extra design considerations
