“How do two brothers get into the nail care business?” This is the single most common question people ask us. There’s a long and rocky version but we’ll give you the short one. We have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to start her own business at the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did everything in our power to support her. In the end, this is a family business.
Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighter’s training. He is energy personified and has a true passion for developing the best professional nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we are a perfect team.
Today, more than 20 years later, Young Nails Inc., is a professional nail care manufacturing company exporting to over 40 countries worldwide and distributing domestically to over 3000 stores. We’re respected for our next-level product innovation and education. Our mission is to bring you the best quality products and we’ll show you how to use them with incredible results. It’s really that simple.
Welcome to the Young Nails family!

Love these tips, thank you! I have a plan now for policies and prices. However as a new salon, I have no real photo examples for soc media. What do you do in this instance? 🤔 xx

Oh I thought this was a first time client as in, you’re working with them for the first time not literally the first client ever!! I remember I was soooo nervous and awkward doing my first manicure and it was just regular polish on natural nails. Oh man what a trip looking back

I literally just made my price list post the other day and was so anxious about it, I'm a beginner so i feel like I shouldn't charge as much as I think I should (though my prices are lower than nail salons in my area). Thank you, Young Nails for this video! Confidence level +60 now LOL

Great advice guys, thank you! There are lots of people out there who (unfortunately) don't have a good mentor to share these ideas with, and it always bites to have to learn these lessons the hard way! Tyfs💜

I know that all industry giants say to set your prices for your area but how do you do that if you are surrounded by salons who don't use safe acrylics like yn are larger than yours so purchase other supplies by the pallet and set their prices below what they should be. I tell myself their clients aren't my clients but at the same time it makes it hard to set your prices at what they should truly be.

I congratulated one of my new clients assuming she was pregnant. She wasnt. And this was before starting the appointment. Anyways i did my work well and even though I was sure she wasnt coming back, she said she wants to. So i guess there is always some luck for the beginners 😊 Oh and btw, you are probably the most educational platform for nail techs i came across. I have to thank you for building my business in a way that serves me and the customers best

I needed this episode when I started out!!! I’m now in the process of moving into a suite AND still having my mobile clients. I’m going to send a message out to my mobile clients regarding my new availability and pricing (time for a raise) and I need to set those prices and policies for my studio clients as well. Gotta love that diversity!!! Going into this industry, I never gave much thought about how much I was going to need to invest myself into this portion of the business. But, I suppose that’s all part of being your own boss, isn’t it?🤪🤪🤪 Please send juices and berries, STAT!💜

Yes I have a question, I have some very expensive nail gels and I have some cheap ones, how do I set my prices?! And how to answer if a client asked why do I use cheap gels even though they're really good quality, almost just as good as my very expensive brand gels

How do y’all feel about prepaying? I’m about to open up and I want my clients to pay a deposit when booking and then pay at least the base price before I start working on their nails. Family was telling me no one else does that but I don’t want a headache of doing someone’s nails and them taking advantage of me🥴

Most people require a deposit. At least you can get something without losing out on money when you could have booked someone else. That way people wont just book and not show up. Set your policies and stick to it.

This is definitely an option and if it is your own business, you can take payment however you feel comfortable. Keep in mind, if the client has already paid, they might not be as likely to add on additional art or embellishments which may effect your ability to upsell and make more money. It is important to consult with your clients at the start of the service and discuss what they want and tell them the price up front so they aren't surprised at the end. Also explain to them that if they decide to add anything additional other than what was discussed, this will be an additional cost. At the end of the service, you would already have their deposit paid, so that would go toward the total price of the service.

I know this is a little off this topic but it relates. What is a realistic investment to start a nail business of your own when you do it out of your home? I’m thinking about doing this as a sideline gig to my current career.

I've always charged my clients with fixed price for decoration. Sometimes it's just 1 rhinestone, but other times it's a whole painting which takes me 15min per nail. Should I charge my clients different, because I feel bad once for the client that pays so much for a rhinestone and second for me after I took 30min for a whole painting on just 2 nails and the price is too low.

Someone allowed a chihuahua into a lash extension appointment and bit off a customers eye socket. So dogs are definitely not allowed in my salon. I literally stop thinking about that lady and how she lost her eyecover and had to get surgery to sew it back on

There are many different booking sites and it's hard to recommend what would be best for your business. What we would recommend is to first figure out what features you are looking for. Do you need just the booking or do you want other features like online booking for your clients to access, taking credit cards for payments and deposits, sending confirmation and reminder texts/emails, preparing financial reports, booking/scheduling for multiple technicians etc. Once you figure out what specifics you need, you could post on our FB Community group and ask for recommendations as there are many people who would have more experience with all of the different apps.
