Good morning everyone. TGIF. It’s been a long week of puppy training...but I did managed to bind several quilts to make this weeks video. Machine binding is perfect for those fast finishes. So grab your coffee and enjoy

I use method 2 and so far no one has given me back a quilt saying they didn't want it because a seam showed on the back! LOL

Binding is my biggest nemesis! We have a ' hate, hate' relationship 🤣 thank you for taking the time to produce this series. Hopefully we can change it to a 'mildly dislike' relationship ;)

Practice practice practice! "How long does it take to NOT hate the janky way the back looks?" she asked, drying the angry tears on the back of the new quilt before going to inspect the perfection of her childhood quilt. THAT answered a LOT of questions. The quilt I had been holding my work up to all this time, HAS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT EDGE FINISH!!!! My childhood quilt has the back folded around the edge and it is sewn on the front with a scant quarter inch top stitch on the quilt top side!!! Wow! I was today years old. Okay, I will stop crying now -- at least about this. I thought I knew how my old quilt was finished, only to realize I only remembered from touch! I never actually studied it!

I am stuck w a question at 8min06. I like to experiment w the fancy stitches. On the still i see the front and back of your quilt. Right? Your fancy stitches are ON the binding, also on the back. How did you manage that??? I would have expected the fancy stitches on the back more on the quilt and less on the binding. By examining your FANTASTIC schematic that goes w this method.

My sister-in-law lives thousands of kilometres away from me in Australia 🇦🇺 yet I felt so close to her tonight when I text her for some advice as I’m a beginner quilter and she told me about an awesome lady on KZread I need to check out, out of all the many quilters on KZread she watches my favourite lady too! I love how I feel I’m being taught one on one by you. Thank you.

Yay I am so happy that you addressed this subject! I have been given the fish eye by more than one quilting purist because I bind with my machine. My quilts are used daily and washed and used and loved. They hold up fantastically and I love the look of binding method three. Thank you Karen as always you show that there is more than one way to do things and that is okay! Love to the puppy. ❤️ stay safe everyone, love from Australia 🇦🇺

Puppy training... yesterday, he was standing by the back door. I let him out and he went right out and pooped. Maybe he is catching on .... he is 4 months old. First grooming this week. Then training on our invisible fence.

I've always machine sewn my binding, partly because hand sewing isn't my thing and by that point, I want to see it finished. I normally sew to the back then bring to the front. Thanks for the other options

Could you do a video of single binding (1 1/2 - 1 1/4 inch) binding? For placemats and mug rugs I find the double binding a little too lumpy. And maybe the faux flange binding? and what about the "wrap-the-back-over-and-make-it-look-like-a-binding" binding? I know there are other youtube videos out there, but I think your instructional videos are probably the best! Clear, pedagogical and fun without fuzz or boring moments. Even funny :-)

I just love your videos! They are just the right mix of informative, instructive and encouraging! Thanks so much because by the time you plan, film, and edit, I'm sure a large amount of time and effort goes into this. We truly appreciate it!

Hand sewing the binding is my favorite part of quilt making. It’s the perfect tv activity. And it’s so joyful when you turn the last corner and start on the home stretch!

I bind mine using method 3. Great graphics showing the quilt and folding the binding over.

Thanks Karen for putting all 3 methods in one video. I’m left-handed and my hand stitching looks terrible. No matter how much practice, it has never gotten even a little bit better, so I never hand stitch the binding on or anything else that is going to be seen. I did it by machine long before I knew it was even ok to do it.....before KZread! I learned quickly that it is way easier to sew the binding on the back and bring it around to the front. Stitching the binding on the front and folding it to the back and stitching in the ditch on the front....nope....too many places where the stitching missed the mark on the back. Yes, too challenging for this person even after many tries, so I just gave it up. So much less stress. I do think that maybe at this point by using wonder clips instead of pins maybe I might be more successful, but I’m not that unhappy with the fool-proof method of stitching it close to the binding edge on the front. Why stress? Love your videos. They are always so helpful. Thank you for sharing your skills with all of us out here just wanting to make the quilt we want to make! ❤️

I absolutely LOVE hand sewing the binding - it's my favourite part. It's so relaxing for me, and although I really enjoy the whole quilt making process, I just love it when I get to the binding :) Thank you, Karen, for another wonderful video.

I enjoy using the fancy stitches on my binding for my family quilts, just to make me happy. I usually use the straight stitch for my donation quilts. Hand stitching is no longer an option. Love your videos, I learn something from every one.
