How to Bend Glass Stringers | Complex Shapes | Fused Glass Project
In this week's Fused Glass Friday video I'm sharing some tips and tricks I use when bending stringers over a candle.
All glass is COE 96 compatible and fired using the auto settings in my Skutt kiln, unless otherwise stated.

Hey girl that is some seriously good technique! Thank you for sharing
I’ve always been envious of how you bend stringers. Thank you for sharing your talent. I’m still envious! Lol

Thanks for sharing 💝
I’d love to hear about the kiln and see you use it
I use a sterno and found it to be hotter probably because the flame is higher. Different parts of the flame either melt more quickly or slower, more control I think. It is as you say so totally meditative that I almost fell asleep my head dropping and just missing the flame. I must be more careful and not bend stringer at 2 am. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it.
Admirable attention to detail🌼 If you set them individually in the kiln, what temperature do you use?

Thanks! I wouldn’t fire these individually, they would be too fragile. I will eventually use these in another project.
Thanks for yet another great video. Can you tell me what mm of stringers you use? thanks!

Try an alcohol burner (Bunsen Burner)
They could be roses too.
I was struck by the number of times you emphasized practice and failure as components of success. (not in so many words, but in the demeanor of the video) Thank you for this lesson….it is one I have needed.

I would like to see you use kiln too and let us know fusing temps you used etc. great Demo’s❤
We haven’t seen you in a while. Just letting you know you are missed.
How do you clean the soot from the stringer?
@EquinoxGlass

It will burn off in the kiln, but you can also use some windex and a cloth to clean it.
While I very much appreciated your video and understood that you wanted to use the clear stringer you purchased in bulk, an opaque or darker transparent color would have been so much easier to see during the demonstration. If you were making the video for yourself, it's not a big deal, obviously. However, for teaching purposes, a color would be better and very much appreciated by your viewers, especially those of us with older eyes! Thank you for your clear instructions on how to make the shapes. Just wish I could have seen what you were doing better.
By the way…how high above the flame are you holding the stringer please?

a dark color stringer would be better for demo purposes. Could see technique better.

As I mentioned I have a ton of clear stringers that I wanted to start using, so I figured I would share what I was working on!
