Rich Froning is a CrossFit athlete known for his achievements participating in the CrossFit Games. He became the first person to win the title of “Fittest Man on Earth” four times and has led team CrossFit Mayhem Freedom to the first-place finish three times. Froning owns and operates the affiliate gym CrossFit Mayhem, located in Cookeville, Tennessee, and is a member of the CrossFit Level 1 Seminar Staff.

I like that Rich is using his reach to send the message about what is going on at CrossFit as of late. The past year we have literally seen a destruction of CrossFit, as a sport, as well as experiencing absolutely zero communication from the higher-ups in regards to why these changes are happening or even what the changes even are before the changes take place. There is no communication, and this sport has gone from changing the way the fitness industry looks at what is healthy and the value in functional training, as well as motivating millions of people to get off the couch and take care of themselves, to now being almost obsolete, virtually overnight. Also, the Games play a larger role in the growth and expansion of CrossFit than possibly CrossFit itself would like to admit. Where athletes like Rich have a MASSIVE part to do with that growth and getting people into CrossFit, is almost a slap in the face to see the higher-ups at HQ not communicating with even the people who helped build the company, and some of these athletes and affiliate owners feeling left in the dark. It’s a story of greed, selfishness, and those affiliate owners who relied on the influence the Games and Crossfit’s media content to inspire new members to join and current members to remain, and their livelihood and ability to put food on the table is at stake is irresponsible and unethical as an entrepreneur/CEO.
