How to Become a Rally Driver- Harder than I thought !

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I have always wanted to have a go at rally driving so when a mate decided to have a Stag Do at a Rally School I had to bring you along for the sideways ride !
I discovered that Rally Drivers are a special bread of driver...maybe even the best of any discipline !

Wish I could get into this. I've had people tell me my entire life I'm a really good and safe driver. I was driving cars when I was 12. But for rally you need to have the balls but not be overconfident..also be able to stay alert more than you would being an aircraft pilot. Anyone in north east United states wanna team up and start a little club or something? I want to get involved in this even if its begginer rally school..

Actually it’s seemingly simple to start novice my assumption is the climbing through the ranks of different levels is the difficult part making connections but im going to be doing a rallycross even in my state throug searching in the SCCA website for my area i would recommend cheering their website for opportunities

That looked awesome fun. The speed of rally cars, the moving around of the car , the varying surfaces, corners, and elevations along with the use of pace notes makes for a great motorsport. Can easily burn an hour on You Tube watching old rally car videos. Think Petrol Pup was glad to be out of this video.

I recall watching on TV a driving programme that pitted the top rally drivers against top F1 drivers. It must have been a good 25+ years ago. Sadly, I cannot recall the name of the programme though. However. My point is this. Of all the races I ever saw, 90% of them were won by the rally drivers. Which isn't surprising seeing what rally drivers have to drive over compared to F1 drivers. And the speed of the rally drivers has to be seen to be believed. I went to some forest in the middle of Wales 30 odd years ago to watch a stage of the WRC and those drivers were tanking it through the forest at phenomenal speeds and all on gravel. It was both awesome to watch and a tad scary too.

You just need to try a tarmac stage next..! And you comment that rally driving is the more skilful discipline between circuit racing and rally driving is (IMHO as a dyed in the wool rally enthusiast) spot on! Great stuff, Peter! Rallying drains your money, you spend hours building it -under the car, and if you bend it on a rally your have to spend money on repairs if you have the money. You do very little driving compared to the hours of preparation and planning. It isn't glamorous.BUT can be extremely rewarding If you have the time and lots of money, and dedication,do it.When you drive on a rally you have to learn to drive all over again, its totally different from anthing else.
