Family medicine is not considered a specialty in many countries where primary care systems have is based on general practitioners (like france in exemple ) I want to know how am i counsidered if i'm applying for a job in newzealand ( as a specialist and that way i apply directly for the jobs or as a medical graduate and i pass the exam ?) .

  • @eunjint

    @eunjint

    8 ай бұрын

    Hello! Thank you for your kind comment. I see, in NZ we have general practitioners too, not family medicine doctors. Are you considered a specialist now? If so then, you can try apply for the vocational pathway as the website states this: "We don't have a list of approved overseas postgraduate medical qualifications for vocational registration. You can apply based on overseas training and qualifications and we will assess your case on its merits." It's a case by case basis. However if you are not yet a specialist, then depending on where you graduated, it may mean you have to sit the NZREX exam. Please use this tool, as it will give you a better idea of where you sit: www.mcnz.org.nz/registration/getting-registered/tool/

Because for nz and Australian graduates it is by ace program. How is it for img? After completing pgy2 how to enter pgy3. Is it a different process? I think it is called vocational surgical training program. SET program for residency is for nz and aus graduates. Is it same for img? Thanks

  • @eunjint

    @eunjint

    8 ай бұрын

    hello! Thank you so much, im glad it saved you time. Yes for IMG, you're part of the normal recruitment which you just have to find the hospital's career's page to look for vacancy and apply traditionally. A better way to do this is visit the hospital in person, usually better to talk to the recruitment person or even the director of the hospital if you're lucky to see them. After pgy2, you apply through the hospital if you plan to stay in the same place. From there, it's the same training programme except you need to have Permanent residency before they will accept you onto the training programme. Hope that helps!

Or jump onto careers.tewhatuora.govt.nz/opportunities/careers-in-health/resident-medical-officers/ or SEEK to look for all jobs in New Zealand. If you’re already in New Zealand or plan to be in nz for a holiday, then I would enquire in person too at different hospitals as they often have new jobs that aren’t up online yet. Good luck, I really hope this helps!
