How to become a MANAGER in CONSTRUCTION

How to become a manager in construction. It's a question that I've been asked a lot lately. If you are interested in becoming a manager in the construction industry like me then this video might help. There are loads of different types of Managers such as contracts managers, project managers, site managers, assistant site managers engineers and senior engineers.
The list is endless. This video is only based on my experience of the managerial hierarchy within the UK construction industry.

    In America a degree is a waste of time. Dig into those plans as much as you can and eventually you will moved up and up until you get where you want. It helps if you know English and Spanish vary well. Take it from me who started out sweeping floor and now im a manager. Learn and absorb everything you can every day on the job, even other trades work so you have a good understanding of everything in the site

    I do agree. You can also go very far without a degree. I think in the uk a degree is now getting to expensive and you can definitely start to earn money and gain experience earlier without one.

General builds like loft conversions wouldn't really count as construction site experi ence I don't think. Most project managers I know had lots of experience as an assistant or even were a site manager or even engineer before taking the position. You are definately on the right road though! Elephant Gunners first up congrats and don't panic! You will be great. I had an assitant when I worked for one of the main housing companies. I would expect you will start out doing the labouring part of the job. My advice is take everything in. Have a little book and write everything down new you learn as you will need it at Some point. If whoever you are pit with doesn't automatically start to teach you about drawings, the kit etc ask them a shit load of questions. They might only let u carry their kit at the start but after a few months start asking if you can do a set up. All this will be clear when you get going. You want to eventually get to a point where the engineer asks u to do most the work. It might seem that they are taking the Mic, but actually at that point you can call yourself the engineer and you are on your way !! Set yourself a goal. Like I want to be an engineer by two years time and you will be!. Best of luck!

  • @SheWhoDaresWins

    @SheWhoDaresWins

    4 жыл бұрын

    M Staton it can be hard but I try and understand why they have a problem with it. Are they intimidated by us, is it just an old point of view because they perceive that we are not capable? Once I get to the root cause I try and talk to them or just show them I can do the job. Empathy at the start is key. If it’s just because they disrespect women then I leave them alone and just continue my work. If they start to have a negative impact on me or they are verbally abusive I will report them and have some strong worded conversations with them.
