As an ex tyre fitter it's nice to finally see someone putting the extra effort in and doing a good job. I would always rotate the tyre on the rim to get the off balance to a minimum. I hate seeing anything more than 60g of weight in one spot!

For anyone wondering this is what’s called roadforce balancing and force matching, this is for when you’re wheel feels like it’s hopping while driving. This is caused by a tire having a ‘flat’ spot so they match it to the wheel where there may be a high spot to counteract it and have a smoother ride. It is common with lower profile tires that don’t absorb shock as much as say a truck tire. If the roadforce cannot be corrected by a force match the tire may need replacement. A tire and wheel will still need to be balanced regularly after this procedure using wheel weights.

And 9/10 times it doesn't do shit anyway. Every time I've tried listening to the machine, the road force changes so little that you can't possibly feel a difference, or gets worse. If I see it in the red, I just get them a price on a new tire, and maybe a wheel of it looks damaged or something. They usually just live with it

Okay for those of you that don't know that is called a road Force balancing machine. If he road Force balanced that tire and then he had to put that much weight on that tire after road Force balancing it that tire is way out of specs for what I would consider a good tire. What I mean by this is that the tire is "out of round". What this technician should have done was showed the numbers on the machine of how out of round this tire was before and after road Force balancing.

Highly accurate laser sensors and the roadforce roller. The process is a little longer than what it shows here. Usually you have to rotate the tire on the wheel twice. So the assembly ends up being run on the machine. Once for a baseline reading, then you rotate the tire on the wheel 180* and balance it again. This second balance with the tire in a different position allows the machine to learn the difference between an irregularity in the wheel or the tire. Than you will rotate the tire to its final position on the wheel and balance for the third and final time. So once to check the balance of the assembly, once to check where the irregularities are in the tire and the wheel, and once to verify proper alignment of irregularities and balance.

@@968porsche9hear me out, this is gonna get mathy. if you think of the balance of a tire as a positive/negative value that fluctuates like a wave (let's say positive equals needing weight, negative, not needing it), and you take a measurement with the tire normal and with it 180° rotated... Then you can use the two sets of data and extract the rim roundness out. Assuming we have balance measurements A and B, with B having the tire 180° turned, then A and B can be represented as A(tire) + Rim and B(tire) + Rim If you subtract B from A you get: A(tire) + Rim - (B(tire) + Rim) which ends up being: A(tire) + Rim - B(tire) - Rim so then the Rims now cancel each other out. Using that you can figure out what the rim value is by cancelling the two tire measurements out.

@@wingman358 Tires are not perfectly round and neither are rims. So if you take a high spot on a rim and match it up with a low spot on a tire you'll get a more even 'round'. Combined with a traditional balance and weights it makes for a noticeably smooth ride. Think of a tired spinning on the rim until it finds a sweet spot and then stays there.
