I completely agree with you! Just turned 55 and after seeing how much can literally be snatched from us I am so ready to live fully, for the years I have left. Just bought a new home. Painting every room, floor to ceiling. Being bold with my choices (thanks to your guidance, Valentina!) Painted my pantry in “Cracked Pepper” and sprayed the typical white wire shelving matte black. It is absolutely stunning! No more dirty white pantry walls! Also using that color on the back wall of my kitchen/ breakfast nook/ sitting room, which has my fireplace and many windows. I love this new way of being so intentional with my choices. Thank you for all the time and effort you give to your videos. Keep it coming! ♥️

Well stated! I absolutely love your comment. I’m 60 and feel the same way, and like you, just bought a home. I wanted to downsize for many reasons. Painting every room in it as well, and it will be a calming serene reflection of who I am and where I am in this journey of life. It is my grounding sanctuary in a world where chaos has swirled around me, a quiet haven of tranquility and joy. You are so right...intention is everything. 😊

Hello! Well girls, I'm with you on this one! I'm 64, just moved into my new build in April. So exciting to have a blank slate, although it's been a little challenging at times. I too, am trying to go with bold colors, I just got one wall painted in black, in the guest room, and painted my island wall navy blue. I island has cabinets, but didn't do them, they are white. I love watching Valentina, as I love black as she does. If someone is not into black, you can still use her ideas with other colors. I do use older items with my new items in decorating. Our personalities have to be in our homes as well. My mom passed away at 94 a few years ago, and some of the items I got from her fit so well in my home it's amazing! Anyway, it's so nice to hear there are others out there in my similar situation. I live in Arizona, where are you girls at?

My husband was diagnosed with diabetes and diabetic retinopathy 12 years ago, by a retinal specialist.His own doctor missed all the signs (advocate for yourselves)! Legally blind with only slight peripheral vision, we have had to modify how we live, how I decorate. CONTRAST, TEXTURE, PATTERNS, COLOR have taken on additional importance. Ex.: Patterns work with solids on top like a tablecloth with solid placemat on top. Large patterns confuse remaining vision. An ocean scene is lost, but a soaring gull is not, especially with bold strokes.Can’t relocate furniture now, but changing artwork adds interest.May I suggest add scent and sound for decorating and to add life and enhance your experiences, with joy or laughter or calm in a room.We have strategically placed small baskets for specific items, too. Texture and size speaks to what is inside and color for me.

Having Diabetic Retinopathy, he's probably had a lot of laser done. With that comes a lot of glare, so when working with color, choosing the right color along with contrast can be very important. Lighting, and the type of lighting is especially important. You sound like an AWESOME wife that cares for your husband deeply and wants him to have the easiest time possible in respect to his vision. I love Saatchi art it's small artists and you can choose so many things-- style, color, size, format etc and you can also train it to learn your style if you can't fit into one of the filters

What usually is missing, is Confidence...❤

My rooms are not boring. I have color and texture and pattern and curated art (mostly from online). My space is reflective of my personality. It doesn't look like a showroom. It looks like a home. Take chances, people. Buy what you love.

Yes please for part two. Love to see a deep dive into art and balancing pattern/texture and what to keep plain and what where to put the contrast.

I once had a guest in my home tell me she felt like she was in a gallery……she loved my art! I don’t understand people who go to big box stores and buy art in those matchy matchy sets……I don’t have money…..but I mostly buy prints that speak to me and frame them beautifully……I have a painting that we carried home from Europe 36 years ago…..it’s as fresh and beautiful as the day we bought it on the beach in Alicante……it speaks to me…..art is everything!

@@HouseofValentina No but my Paternal grandfather is from there…we were just visiting family….my Dad’s first cousins.

We just built a new house in Florida about a year ago. I am decorating with navy blue and beige and white. My husband wanted “beachy” and I wanted a more modern take on traditional. I am trying to decorate in a way to make us both happy! I don’t think our house is boring despite the beige! I have found that I never lost my love for painting and I have been using my own paintings throughout the house. We have high ceilings and big walls to add artwork. I like painting my own scenes on canvases that are the size I need for the wall. I have a friend who is teaching me how to do “acrylic pouring” and it’s really fun! I’m currently working on a three piece set with each canvas sized at 18 inches wide by 60 inches long. My last painting was a 36 inch by 36 inch beach scene! My husband loves it and it goes well with the navy blue walls! Thanks for your great advice!

The premise of this video on how not to be boring, is such a good idea. But it seems such a pity that almost all the examples are black and white and completely not my choice of colours. Also you did say that you were going to continue your series on colours and it would be lovely to have a session on green...a fabulous nod to nature.

Good point, which is always my issue when seeking advice. I need and crave color. And most examples will only show color if it's boho and I am far from boho.

To be fair I think everyone who watches this channel knows her color palette is whites, grays and black so this isn’t the channel to for someone looking for inspiration using tons of color!

Antiques are the best way to keep boring at bay. Lighting, furniture, mirrors, art, accessories, etc. However, I never see you design with antiques, just Pottery Barn, West Elm, RH, Ikea, etc. not even great brands of furnishings with lasting value and no custom furnishings. And, it is not about having a low budget. If you want a jaw dropping home you have to have items of interest, maybe even a little shock value. Those things are found at flea markets, art fairs and antique shows, or make your own art. Think about all those fabulous pieces at Scott Market near you and how they would make a drop dead home.

I just wanted to pop in here and say that they do show their antiques, pieces from their travels, art they've made themselves, etc etc. They also frequently emphasise the importance of bringing home items from your travels and items that speak to your personality. I think big brand names keep things accessible as of course you'll never be able to find the exact same antiques as a youtuber. IKEA at least is a good one as it's an international brand. Big brand names also do well for clickable youtube content. So yeah, they definitely do design with antiques and other items.

Agreed. As a southerner, antiques are where it’s at. I wouldn’t buy from hobby lobby, etc., where everyone else buys the exact same pieces of furniture, art and decor. HUGEly boring and copycat.

I’m so inspired by you as I’ve been transforming my house the last several months and it’s been SO MUCH FUN!!! I’ve made a couple of (paint - ugh - gets me every time) errors along the way but that’s ok. I literally combined the 9 samples of whites/grey shades/neutrals I was trying out and painted my entire guest room and LOVE IT! This is definitely a work in progress, and I appreciate your sound advice, glowing personality, cute hubby, and above all, love of coffee!!! 💗

My house is serene, but definitely not boring. I accomplish this through contrast, texture, unique pieces placed here and there and lots of plants, all kinds, all sizes. You keep us thinking. Would love to see some more before and afters, like you did for your mother in law.

Love this video not only for the content and excitement that you always deliver but it states the way I feel about the last year! I want to travel and I want to bring home pieces that will reflect our likes. Even until we travel back to Europe, I am designing our main bath to reflect a style you would see in a modern European villa. Valentina, I just love your videos. They’ve been really guiding me these last couple years. Recently I just moved into an apartment from a house and I’m STILL excited to decorate it. It’s so worth it! You’re at home most of the time and for years maybe if you’re renting...I’ve never regretted it bc you’ll feel more inspired and alive every minute you live there. Plus, miracles can happen with 1 coat of lolz primer. As long as you primer, landlord is fine bc they have to paint the unit anyway after you leave.

In my home I have always been told it is so comfy .. and now I get compliments on the clean and minimal.

I remember a few years ago I went to an art exhibition here in the UK and there was a room where everything was painted white... the coat hanging on the hook, the chairs, table.. eveything. The impact hit me when I walked out of the room and the colours of the surroundings came at me like whooooosh! It REALLY made me appreciate colour! I love white but we NEED colour in our lives!

I am definitely with you on this subject! I don't care for the boring bland trend that I see with most contemporary designers. I'm old, I'm opinionated, and I like color and pattern. Looking forward to more.

Enjoyed the video but I asked myself 'Am I bored by my house?' When you watch videos and see all the different designs it's easy to become discontent with what you have (I know I do) but to keep your house 'fresh' just a few tweaks, i.e. cushions, throws, lamps even lampshades can update your surroundings. Also, change artwork/plants/ornaments.
