    Hi! Try using Panty hose instead of the burlap. You can tie it around the tree instead of stapling into it! :)

  • @LandscapeSolutionsLLC

    I’ve done that before. They seem to break down too quickly for my liking. These shallow staples don’t even go all the way through the bark of an Oak. But yeah, pantyhose works good too!

    I've used t-shirts cut in strips. It lasts long enough for the roots to get a hold in the bark. If its looks like it's loosening up too soon. Just put another one around it.

Then drape Spanish moss all over to cover the burlap? I read in your comments below that the burlap only lasts a few months. Thank you!!

  • @LandscapeSolutionsLLC

    There's a house in St. Andrew's in Boca Raton that every tree has blooming orchids on it. I was there when I was doing roofing work.Its been a while so I don't remember what part it was in. They had a person that took care of the orchids. They are all around the pool and everywhere. If it didn't have a bloom it wasn't out. It's like they would put them in the greenhouse until it bloomed then they would put it out. I was in awe when I saw this house.

    No, just staple the burlap starting at the top and sides, then tuck the moss up inside and pull the burlap tight around the bottom. You can see the bottom orchid, completed, at the 3:55 mark in the video. Then once that’s done, I drape some Spanish moss over the bottom of the orchid and the burlap, so you can’t even see it. Do me a favor and like the video and sun, it helps KZread to show this video more. Thanks man.

    Sana Wafai thanks for commenting! Please subscribe, as it Really helps our videos to get out there! But to answer ur questions... Orchids can take temps up to 100 degrees. I live in S FL and the do great here. They are tropical plants so love the hot humid climate! Most prefer indirect sunlight tho. Depending on the type of Orchid you use. The ones in the video are Phaeleanopsis Orchids. They don’t like direct sun for a long part of the day. And most orchids can take sort bursts of temps down to 30, but frost will damage them. About taking them in during winter... the whole point in attaching them to trees in because their roots will attach to the tree in a few months, and you won’t have to burlap them anymore. So pulling them off in the winter, kind of defeats the purpose. So I’d leave them, maybe cover them up if it’s gonna snow or frost. And see if they rebloom in the spring. If not, just replace them every spring and enjoy them all spring, summer, and fall... Please subscribe, and hit the bell for alerts. Thanks again for the questions!

    You can just soak the roots once a week, maybe once every 10 days. Just feel it out with how hot it is, and how dry the roots get. But they don’t like to be wet all the time, and try not to get the leaves and flower petals wet, as that could cause a fungus. You can soak the leaves with a spray bottle, or just a cup of water. That’s the beauty of the moss, it holds moisture around the roots. So if you soak them real good with a spray bottle, or a cup of water, the moss will keep moisture on the roots for a couple days.

    If you get a frost prediction, cover them up so they don’t get frost on them. They should be pruned up by that time anyway, so it shouldn’t be hard to do. There is a “frost fabric” you can purchase that people put over their flowers and plants.

    What about when it rains though??? The water will go into the crown

  • @LandscapeSolutionsLLC

    @LandscapeSolutionsLLC

    Жыл бұрын

    Occasional water in the crown is not a big deal. All I’m saying, is don’t spray the leaves and flowers with water every couple of days. When you are getting the orchids established, I would soak the root ball two times per week. Maybe once if you have plenty of Spaghnum moss around it. Because that stuff hold a lot of moisture.

    Thanks for the comment! I trim them when they are bound up like that, because the tips of the roots, when bound around the bottom, are often black and rotted a bit. Giving gem clean cuts, allows for a healthy healing of the roots, and they grow fast and healthy from that point. Thanks again, and happy gardening! 😊🌺🌴
