Asians normally use hot/boiling water to sterilise/rinse their culinary equipment before serving. In Chinese gongfu cha sessions, they rinse the entire tea set and tea table with boiling water before steeping the tea leaves.

This may be what kids are now learning in ramen school ... but after living in Japan for a good many years myself, the absolute best raman is made from scratch and simmered an entire day before served. Ever see the movie Raman Girl? Basically, the same.

I love the hot water rinse before pouring. Grandma used to do that with espresso cups and soup bowls or anything that had anything hot going in. No one does that anymore

@@massagesteve It helps clean it, too, but where I’m from (Italy) it was done primarily to keep the cup/bowl warm prior to adding the contents.

That makes way more sense to warm up the bowl/utensils 😭 I thought it was to sterilize too since it’s common in Cantonese culture to use hot tea to rinse then pour but then it wouldn’t make much sense to dump the cleaning water/tea back into the bin where others will also take cleaning water 😅

Some of us still do that 🇬🇧 I remember years ago cookers had a wire rack that you put plates on to keep warm, the heat from cooking would be utilised to do this . I used to use the oven to warm plates , but now have bought a plate warmer to free up the oven.

The white ingredient with a pink spiral in it is actually called "Narutomaki", which is a fish broken down into a smooth paste and then formed into one of those ones (pink-coloured spiral is achieved via food dye).

Pouring hot water in the bowl is really to pre heat the bowl so the broth doesn't lose heat when poured and assembled

​@LittleFlowerful 1. the bowl is already clean. 2 that's the more ineffective way to clean a bowl. So no, it wouldn't make sense. Just admit to being wrong. Its painful to see when people are wrong but try to double down on how wrong they are.
