Please note that upon reassembly only push the generator tube into the burner to the notch on the tube. Any farther and you will get a bad air mix and yellow flame!

I just came across your video here. I got my old school Peak 1 550B started and it works. Sure does not look as pretty as yours. I bought it in '88 and is still goin' so hell ya! Thanks for the video!

Thanks for this man. I found an old (I think unused) 550b (circa 1990) left by my dad and was wondering how to use this thing. I can't get white gas where I'm at, so I'm going to be switching out the generator with the kerosene one. I hear you have to heat that generator up for longer with some sort of gel, which I can't really get here either. So I'm gonna have to come up with ways to heat up the generator somehow. Thanks for your informative video. At least I know how to switch the generator now.

Thank you. Your instructions helped me revive an old 550 :-) (the cleaning wire was bent, but I could clean the head of the generator and carefully straighten the wire to get it working again. Will buy a new generator though)

One Coleman factory connected expert said about these locking glues that they lubricate threads and can cause over tightening. I bought nail paint and I noticed that it soften in alcohol. Otherwise it is good for covering small skin wound.

Great work JIUJITSU2000! You've helped me gain the knowledge to attempt the cleaning of the Coleman stoves. Maybe you could also do the Coleman Dual Fuel 533 in the future?

Excellent videos! Just a couple of questions. Is it not better to use eg silicone grease (for O rings) and sewing machine clear oil to lubricate rather than 3in1 oil bc that that oil is known to damage/disintegrate rubber O rings and also gum up in time? And by using nail varnish (as thread glue), would that not make it more difficult to disassemble for future servicing/repairs? Thanks.

in my view, i've the same logic as your comments. 3in1 is not very proper lub for this purpose, just normal grade mineral oil would be okay for its purpose as sewing machine mineral oil. futhermore the varnish never be okay for using the stove for years, but it's very suitable only for very temporary purpose. the varnish must make many troubles on the fuel-lines incl. jet, fuel pump's tiny holes, many o rings on the fuel lines and so on...

Excellent video, you make it look super easy. Explain to me something ... is that this model has a super generator that does not get dirty? Because the more expensive or improved the product lacks components, for example it seems that now does not come with the funnel which filter the dirty gas or kerosene? why? forgive my bad English. my Greetings from Venezuela

Both assembly and disassembly vids are very well done! I'm deciding among one of the few options in the market and you've almost convinced me to pick this model!! I'd like to feed it with what they call in Switzerland "lamp oil" (kerosene or paraffine); have you tested this little boy with kerosene fuel? Other models I was considering are the Ukrainian Motor Sich PT-3 and the British Primus No. 100. The PT-3 does not seem to work on Kerosene and the Primus works with this fuel exclusively. I could not find info about the 550B working on kero. Thank you in advance for a feedback!

I have owned one of these for over 25 years. It burns kero, but it should come with a second generator just for kero (so you need to swap out the normal generator), plus you need to use a preheating paste. This is explained in the instructions if you have them.

550B has 2 kinds of generators so coleman says as "multi fuel". Multi fuel means for all coleman products - White gasoline & Kerosene. Dual fuel means - White gasoline & Regular gasoline from gas station. You can find another generator for 550B which is working for Kerosene fuel from Amazon or Ebay wherever you prefer. www.amazon.com/Coleman-Kerosene-Generator-Multifuel-Stove/dp/B000BS065K

JIUJITSU2000 I have this same stove that I bought off a fellow Marine about 5 years ago. I haven't really had a chance to use it much until recently. After I get the stove going, low and about half way produce the nice blue flame you'd expect. Anything higher than halfway, and the flame goes yellow, there comes a sporadic hiss that sounds like the static off an old-school walkie talkie, and black soot begins to build. Seems to me that it's acting as though it won't mix enough air to burn the fuel efficiently. But I have no idea what would cause this. It's max output is greatly lowered because of this problem and now my old Feather 442 that I have had since about 1998, is way outperforming the Exponent with the exact same fuel source. Do you have any advice for this problem?

I have that same model stove. It is fairly new with only 20 hours or so of usage over 5 years. I always use quality white gas. After several years of perfect operating, I am now having an issue. When I attempt to light the stove, it does not light right away even though it sounds like the gas is flowing. Eventually a good bit of liquid gas will pool in the plate which I know is not good and then when it does eventually light, it is an inferno of yellow flames shoot a foot high for a minute or two before the stove eventually operates somewhat normally with a blue flame. But even after finally settling down and flame turns blue, it sounds like it is skipping and burping and doesn't sound right. I am capable of disassembling and reassembling. What do you think the issue is? Any insight as to what part might be bad or dirty? I'd like to have a good idea as to what to clean or what part to replace before I start disassembling. Any insight appreciated

flyboykramer6 i think your generator needs inspection and cleaning? When possible a u.s. Bath, or try pressed air, and detergent. Also clean the burner ass. All these wafers upon each other must be clean. I must repair my generator fore the wire is broken at the hook part. Succes!
