I NEVER wear make up, like ever, so i have watched endless tutorials on eyeshadow as i don't own any foundation, primers, or concealers so i struggle to find any make up vids on here, when i came across this vid i thought id give it a last go. Once i watched it i immediately wrote down the brands and things you used. This helped a lot! without any primer only my Clair's eyeshadows i achieved the look i wanted so thank you I've never been a girl for make up till now. Thanks again!!!
Skip to where she teaches how to apply the eyeshadow: 7:45 You're very pretty Gena!!! Thank you for posting these videos :) I don't wear makeup, and don't plan to any time soon, but it's nice to know how to. The videos you post are very helpful and informative. :)
Just subscribed- this video was super helpful! I am 17 and I used to be fairly good at makeup as I took many aesthetics classes. I suffered from a severe concussion and I am basically learning all over again- this was so helpful!
For eyeshadow, primers are very important because they keep eyeshadow from settling into fine lines. I would recommend using the Urban Decay Primer Potion, as it is the best I've tried. You also want to avoid using any shimmery eyeshadows. Shimmer enhanced the texture of your skin, and will make wrinkles look more visible. So stick to matte eyeshadows, or satin finish ones.
Wow this was really nice. You're so concise and explain everything so well, I think I finally got the hang of it. I'm 26 and I've never worn more than one eyeshadow and my makeup skills are embarrassingly bad and now I'm really trying to learn but it has proven kinda hard, especially bc I don't have the required tools. But thanks to this video I'm now much more confident and I have more points of reference. Thank you so much. This look is perfect for me bc I like simple stuff. 5 star video :)
Those eyeshadow colors seriously look phenomenal on you! I have too light of skin color to pull that off but I usually go with natural brown hues to bring out my blue eyes.
I'm 28 and have never EVER looked at HOW to apply make up. always just fumbled along. I randomly decided to try and this video came up. fantastic instruction and I can't believe how much better my eyes look! Thanks so much for sharing your technique. I think now I need to go buy some better makeup and brushes :)
I loved your video. I was never taught ANYTHING about makeup and am just now (at 23) starting to learn the basics. So thanks :) this helps me.
Just found this video. I must say, you are absolutely stunning without make up. Your skin and eyes are beautiful. You don't need make up AT ALL. You're gorgeous!
You're so articulate and you pack a ton of great, useful information in this video. Thank You!

Thank you for this...your tutorial was extremely helpful for the makeup challenged like me. Yours is the first tutorial I have found where the instructions are precisely articulated, which made it super easy to understand. And I love the finished results....you look glam but not overly done up. You rock!

Sara Jones Thank you! I just posted a new version of this video with updated tips, brushes, and products if you want to check it out! kzread.info/dash/bejne/pYt-tbCpf5a4gbw.html&lc=z13evfdjdk3zyhksr23lwbwpztaxgln0f
I just started using make a few months back mainly to line my eyes (i use eye shadows , powders , liquid ,different colored eye pencils).I was getting a little bored of my routine and i tried eyeshadows on my eyelids , and i did all the mistakes in the book lol. This was so helpful ,thank you so much.
thank you for going into so much detail regarding eyeshadow including primer, brushes, and the different types of eyeshadow. I can't wait to try this out thanks to your explicitly detailed help! :)
I love the fact yu gave different brands. For someone like me who is super new at this it is nice to know what brands to try!
Helped me sooo much, you have no idea! I found myself singing along with the song in the background haha, thank you for help!
Thank you for this excellent tutorial!! Eyeshadow has been the biggest challenge for me. I'm going to try your tips and I hope to get better at it!! 💗👏🏼😮
Thank you so much for making this tutorial! For all the makeup stuff I do, eye shadow is the one thing I still struggle with. Will definitely be using this video as a guide - thanks again!
Gena, thanks for the tutorials that you make. I'm a subscriber and I'm learning a lot from you. Makeup has sure changed since I was your age, but better late than never, right. I love more of a natural look and this is beautiful on you. I can't wait to try it myself.
Excellent tutorial, thanks so much (and thanks for noting when the actual tutorial portion starts). This will help me tremendously!
The Urban Decay Primer Potion can be purchased at Ulta or Sephora, or you can order it from Amazon through the link on my blog (the blog post is the first link in the description of this video). Amazon sometimes has it a few dollars cheaper. The e.l.f. Mineral eyeshadow primer I mentioned can be purchased at Target or through the e.l.f. link on my blog too.
I THINK THIS WAS THE BEST HOW TO , FOR MAKEUP THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!! GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!
So helpful all the tips you provided on products, method, the whys, and the application demo,
Thank you. Love the way explain everything and thank you for saying where you get all your make up and the names of the brands.

Thank u so much for your turorial, i looked beautiful during our choir annivesary concert last dec 14 :) more power to u! Keep on inspiring us with ur beauty!
Thanks sooo much! So many videos that are for "beginners" eye shadow application never get into as much detail as you did. They usually just show how to apply it which is great but then I'm always like but what about brushes? what about type of eye shadows? does the quality matter? You def went through all of those. Thanks so much for being so detailed!
I really want to start wearing more makeup because its so much fun! I only have a couple eyeliners and a tube of mascara. I started playing with my moms eyeshadow and never realised how easy and fun it is. Will definitely be asking for a sephora or ulta gift card for my birthday :)
Anything shimmery and golden would look beautiful! You can try a gold-toned champagne, copper, bronze. And for colors olive and deep purples will really make your eyes pop!
You're really well - spoken and easy to listen to :) thanks for the tutorial!
Thank you so much you're an amazing teacher. I'm the 40 year old virgin to make up and you have helped me so much
This was very helpful cause I've been looking all around KZread and all of them either apply it in a very hard looking technique or it just doesn't come out good So this was VERY helpful thanx

I just watched 3 of your tutorials and so far I have to say that I'm hooked! :) You explain the steps so well that I don't get "lost" (being a newbie and all, I tend to get overwhelmed with all the products and vid tutorials out there). What's more, I love that you elaborate on details about why you recommend a product. You are a lifesaver! Much love from the Philippines

Thank you so much. I always have trouble with eyeshadow especially the amount. My friends sometimes say I have too much on and sometimes I have too little on. So thank you very much.
That's funny. I was wanting to learn how to put it on better! And the eye shadow I planned on using, you show in the video lol. I got the wet and wild color eye con for Christmas lol.

So helpful all the tips and application demo. Thank you. :)
Great video thank you! What colour nail varnish are you wearing in this? Xx
Where did you get the multi colored eye shadow palette? Please tell me,i am just DYING TO FIND OUT. Thx!
I need a little help im new could u tell me the exact brushes u used in this im having a hard time finding the right ones on the sites without the number of the brush. It would be so helpful. I have about 4 brushes but im having some trouble knowing the difference between the shader brush and the one you used on your brow bone. If you could tell me what these two are ( the number) it would help me so much in ordering them. Should the brow bone brush be fluuffyer or stiffer then the one used to blend. Again if u could give me the sigma numbers it would be wonderful. I watch all you videos over and over even for my hair. You do a great job and love them any help would be so apreciated. Hugs Amanda Nicola
Great and informative video. i'm still pretty clueless when it comes to eyeshadows so thanks so much for making a video targeted to help beginners.

This is a beautiful, natural look that I'm trying to copy. I just switched over to using brushes so still learning how to work with those. Any recommendations for a cheaper primer potion? Urban Decay is $75, a little much for my budget :) Anyways, thanks so much for making this!
I love your hair & your eye brows! But another really fantastic affordable eye primer that's super affordable is Milani-I love that one,& it's only $6.50. It intensifies the color,& I've heard it's a dup for Too Faced. I personally like it better than Nars or UDPP, I've had my eye makeup look freshly applied for 16+ hours-probably would've been longer too, but I had to go to bed, lol. That palette is gorgeous-I may have to get that! I use shimmery neutrals like that alot.
hi, I am so a beginner. I am still in the learning phase. my question to you is do I need to change my make up when the season change?
Hii ! Great tutorial...one question tho..what could be a substitute for the primer ? Thank you
love it thank you much for the tutorial ♥
it looks so simple and easy.i usually have like raccoon eyes when i blend even two eyeshadows so i just put one to be safe but i like this look. i'll try to practice more.thanks so much! and i love your pallets but theyre too much for me
thanks love this look!
thanks! definately gonna try this.

Yes, purple really does compliment green eyes. Even if you do a neutral eye, if you just add a touch of purple to your lower lashline it will really bring out your eyes. You can also go for shades like plum and deep violet colors that lean more towards brown so its not so scary like bright colors. For neutral shades, look for golden toned shadows, copper, and warm browns :)
Morning that was great I know this video is 2 years old but I'm hoping you still answer the comments, anyway I have eyes which have kinda know eye lids yours, putting on shadow has always been a challenge for me, any ideas on how I can achieve the look you have? Tks yours look very nice.

Thanks for the great tips!! 😘
They updated the palette so can u do this with a different palette
a great video! i'm super happy that you have a lot of really helpful tips- especially for those on a low budget. other videos that i've seen make a lot of expensive suggestions which aren't the best option for a poor student -___- lol
