Here's a helpful tip from a professional animator who's worked with Tim Burton. Do the pose lined up to your reference every 10 or 12 frames or so. And then I know you're not going to rotate all around the pose. You just want it to match one camera angle but still rotate all around it and make those poses nice shape. Then go through and sort of break down the in between poses, adjusting your character and everything. Because if you go every frame by every frame you can like force some gimbal log or weird deformation of the geometry relative to that single angle still.

big tip for anyone in the comments here : dont go frame by frame right away. do it every 12 frames. then go back over it and see where more keyframes are needed, place a keyframe inbetween (at the 6 frame mark) , then repeat this process until you're adding in the last little details that DO need to be frame by frame. you'll save yourself a lot of time and it'll be easier to adjust animations when there's not a million keyframes when there's no need for them. (every 12 frames because it divides easily into 6,3 and 1. if you want a REAL rough set of keyframes to start with you can even do every 24 frames,48 frames and so on, but that's generally too big a gap to really be helpful (assuming a 24 or 30 fps timeline))

I believe they have a plugin or app that turns your raw footage into an animated rig that you can bind to your mesh. Don't remember what it's called, but I also like this method for starting so that you can learn it yourself rather than having tech to do it for you.
