    I don't know the first thing about animation, but it seems pretty daunting from the outside. I was expecting my first glimpse into the behind-the-scenes to confirm that apprehension, but I was thoroughly surprised and thrilled to see how easy you made this look. What a great video. As someone with a budding interest in animation, this was a fantastic introduction to the subject, and has only encouraged me to explore further. Thank you!

  • @terryrhuebottom

    @terryrhuebottom

    3 жыл бұрын

    Most likely they were using a Pose to pose technique. Where they analyze reference and decide on what poses are the "Key poses" and then the animators work on the in-betweens and breakdowns. Books like The Animators Survival Kit by Richard Williams, And The Illusion of Life by Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas. Both are great resources for emerging animators regardless of whether you are working in 2D or 3D.

  • @Pixxeria

    @Pixxeria

    3 жыл бұрын

    The classic Tom & Jerry was made with full animation, they had the budget and time back then since they were shorts for the cinema - only a few each year. In the 60s and 70s that didn't exist anymore, the model shifted to TV animation for children and the budgets and production time was greatly reduced. That's when Hanna Barbera and other studios created limited animation, a collection of techniques to speed and simplify things. You can see that by how the Flintstones and other shows rely so much on talking. Some of the limited animation techniques: reducing the amount of new drawings by frame (animating on twos and threes), keeping the body still and moving only the lips of the character, the rolling background that repeats endlessly, among others. That only begun to change in the 90s when computers are brought along and that has helped a lot. Besides full 3d shows like Reboot, PCs begun replacing the hand painting process. Cartoons like Justice League and X-Men Evolution were done this way: the animation was done on papel but instead of painted cels, the drawings are digitized and colored digitally. That is the most common way of making 2D cartoons untils this day, witht he difference that some are drawn digitally instead of on paper (like the modern Simpsons). Other model that is used a lot is the cut-out animation, in which the 2D characters are created like puppets and the animators manipulate them just like in 3D animation. This, of course, is cheaper and a lot faster than full 2D animation, but it can produce really good shows if used by talented animators: Teen Titans Go, Mighty Magiswords, The Hollow, Jorel's Brother and others.
