    Adding the lotion to legs and feet is a great way to help leg cramps at night. For children this helps relieve growing pains. One of my daughters had this problem because her bones where growing faster than her muscles could stretch. At that time I had her soak in warm bath with Epson salt (magnesium) and stretch her legs. This lotion would have made a great addition. Many Blessings!

    I just made this with the candelilla wax and am still getting some water seepage. I just dab it with a tissue to absorb the water before I apply. I dont really care as it's for myself. Thank you for the recipe.

    I used your last recipe for this and noticed the same thing with the seperation but it wasn't too big of a deal, I still loved it. I have plenty of beeswax to use up so I wonder the next time I make it whether it's just better to use a bit more instead of purchasing the Candelilla Wax to rectify the issue

    Thanks for sharing! This was my experience too, it didn’t really bother me but we got enough negative feedback that I wanted to improve it! I did up the candelilla wax and cocoa butter to 2 tbsp instead of 1 in the original recipe, you might try that with the beeswax too and see how it does! Glad you’ve been loving it!!

    You aren't going to overdose on magnesium with this. I've used supersaturated MgCl for many years and I never developed diarrhea, which happens to be the symptom with oral over use . I never tried it in tallow or real oil before. If you make another batch, consider using a jar of coconut oil instead. It absorbs into the skin easily and does not leave a greasy feeling. I never mixed it with MgCl or dead sea salt before. I might give it a try.

    Hello!!! Just made some today!! I agree the magnesium oil very slowly whilst blending the whole time. I did 2 tablespoons at a time. Have you ever noticed it "sweating? I got it in the jars and it was sweating. So I stirred it well and put in fridge. Should I tale the lid off and let it evaporate? I live in Colorado, so fairly arid. I love it. Thanks!!!! I hope you can make a suggestion please. I used the updated wax! Oh, also let it cool between whipping. I put into fridge for about five minutes. It was fun!!!!

    Awesome!! Thanks for sharing your experience. Mine has sweated a bit but nothing major. I’ve always just stored with the lid on and it hasn’t been an issue. Enjoy! 😊

    I peeked at it again, and I think it was just water, it is completely absorbed now!!! I just love it. I used Mango Butter instead of Shea. It was awesome.

    Great!Would epsom salt work?And I like your stove...does it use firewood?

  • @FromScratchFarmstead

    @FromScratchFarmstead

    Thanks! Our stove runs off gas. I've never used epsom salts in this recipe but it's a different form of magnesium (magnesium sulphate) vs. magnesium flakes are magnesium chloride. Epsom salts are often synthetically derived for the mass market and from what I've researched magnesium flakes tend to be better absorbed and more bioavailable. Hope this helps!

    Maybe a dumb question, but is there any concern of mold forming since water is incorporated?

    Beeswax, candelilla wax….any true wax is not an emulsifying wax. They will not emulsify. You need a true emulsifier like organic sunflower lecithin (this is a w/o emulsifier which is not what you are making…..for what you are making you would need a natural o/w emulsifier such as olivem 1000. You also need a preservative for what you are showing in this video recipe. Although magnesium does increase pH making it harder for “bugs” to grow its not 100%….you need to a something to preserve the water unless you melt the epsom salt in the heated oil itself therefor no longer needing water therefor no longer needing a preservation system.

    Would you use water or just melt mg flakes directly in the oil? Also would you add candelilla wax/ emulsifier? Thanks 🙏

    Would it still be a magnesium lotion if the magnesium is not mixed with water? Im noticing a seperation in mine and was hoping it was just me doing something wrong. How would u change the measurments, or would you just stick with the 1/2 cup?

    Are you sure MgCl is oil soluble? If it is, then we don't need to go through the steps of dissolving it in water and using an emulsifier. Coconut oil would work best if this is the case. Coconut oil is a mct that passes easily through the skin.

    Thank you for this. So sunflower lecithin I can buy at the health food store but would it thicken it like wax?
