    I know it has been a year, wipe the solution with a white paper towel to see the color with more definition.

    Thank you for showing us how to test for silver! I was just looking at the lines on the black stone and couldn't figure out why I wasn't seeing color.

    Glad I could help! I was having the same problem! After a bunch of videos, I found someone who used this method. It’s so much easier to tell if it’s silver, I had to show it too!

    I’m not sure about that one. Some jewelers and coin shops have a machine that can check purity.

    Wipe your test off your stone with a white paper towel. You can see the color more vividly.

    Thanks for explaining it a bit further. I was having a real hard time looking at the stone & acid bead itself. All I could see was a black blob. Looking at your drops, they look as black as mine! I've watched people testing and they seemed to just look and know. I was sure my acid was bad. But now I'll try again and see if I can make it work. When they say it might show as creamy white, how will you see that? Now, if I can just get used to my Kee gold tester, I'll be in business!

    No problem! I’m not sure about the creamy white, I haven’t heard that. Gold can definitely be tricky, especially with heavily plated items

    I am using the acid that is specially made for testing silver. I got it in a gold/silver testing kit on Amazon. Hope that helps!

    No problem! Usually it is only a very thin layer of silver, and when you search it on the stone, it may show the base metal underneath

    @peggipenfold4580 not really, it’s likely that there wouldn’t be anything on the tissue afterwards. But if there is, and it’s not red, it’s probably not solid silver

    That's how I test as well. I don't know if you have heard this but I have been told these acids only have a short shelf life. Once opened a few months. Have you noticed or heard this? I wondered because I have done a couple of tests on known items and they failed. My acids are 2 years old. Ill order some new and retest. Thanks for posting,,,

    Spot are you silver acid that has sat for like a year since I had tested and it did the same thing it gave me negative results but I knew acid got correct results definitely has a shelflife once it’s opened

    Many people use the 18k but for accurate results and to know the purity of silver you are checking ,the silver solution is best but it can be complicated to understand, which makes sense why people use the 18 k.

    Is there any way to tell 925 from 800 silver? Will they test the same color?? As many Mexico pieces are 800 or unmarked so how do you know? Ty!

    The gold is a bit different as far as I know. With gold, the acid will make the line disappear from the stone. I may make a video about gold in the future.

    I put it in a mixture of baking soda and water for a minute or so to neutralize the acid. Then give it a dunce with regular water

    I’ve never used the gold testing acid for silver. I use the acid specifically for testing silver. It contains nitric and muriatic acid

    I just use the acid that’s meant for testing silver in the precious metal testing kits they sell on Amazon. I believe it contains nitric and muriatic acid

    ​@@TheFinderGuyno not nitric and muriatic(aqua regia) What you have is known as Schwerter's solution. Concentrated nitric acid 3/4 of one ounce, water 1/4 ounce and I believe 1 gram of potassium dichromate. There are videos that show you how to make it. I believe Sreetips on KZread has a video. Hope this helps.

The reason I know is aqua regia will almost immediately precipitate silver chloride(looks like snow in the liquid) Schwerter's turns red, the more pure your silver the more it will look like blood. At 800 fine silver it will appear brown red. Doesn't work well on 500 fine.

    @lancemillward2462 it might be possible, but I personally can’t tell the difference. Some pawn or coin shops have those machines. I recommend calling around to see who has one in you area

    I just took a Tiffany and Co. bracelet to a pawnshop and they tested it for silver and said that it came back red so it’s not silver, are they lying to me?
