In this video I show you in 10 easy steps how to light your subject for an infinity background. I use the Sony ZV-1, ZV-E10 and A7siii but you can really use any camera that has manual exposure and even better if it has zebras. They have apps that can control your phones exposure and zebras apps f you are shooting on your iPhone. I think the most important thing to remember is to make sure you are in a controlled lighting environment.

@@thefilmalliance I am a musician but I am sharpening my video skills, so I can do my own music videos. I will definitely use this technique for one of my songs. It is really amazing what you can do with a small camera, nice lens, and a backdrop. It takes time to acquire some knowledge and practice, but hey, all of this was available only to a selected few who had money, label, etc... and now it is almost free.

Was on the fence weather to get a black background set. However, my current is a green screen which I can turn to into a digital black background when I need to. I do art demos, and need to place myself as an inset on the corner when demonstrating so there’s always connection with my audience.

I recently bought the Sony ZV-E10, and this camera has a large number of features / settings. I am new to videography so am learning as much as possible. The environment I am filming in is even darker than yours (only one side of the face is lit - so, very dramatic). What would you recommend I use for a picture profile? PP10? I am experimenting between 2,400K (preferable) and 5,500K at 10% or 20% brightness. And also, do you suggest I use 50fps instead of 25fps (PAL)? I am also learning DaVinci Resolve, so yeah, my brain is on fire 😂 Thanks :)

Thanks for the tutorial. I’m confused though. Around 8:18 you say you’re showing us what the video looks like straight out of camera and not using any color profiles, but all of the sample footage shows a wipe to a much better look. What did you do to get that “after” look? Thanks

Shoot Ektrachrome Commercial (ECO) ASA 25 in a coal mine with one battery-powered light. You'll get an amazingly realistic black infinity background.
Great tips. Thanks for posting. I always find black backgrounds to be more dramatic compared to light ones. Would you also use similar principles for a deep red ( burgundy) or deep purple colour?
