How to Accelerate Soil & Ecosystem Restoration | John D. Liu | Dr. Elaine Ingham

John D. Liu and Elaine Ingham come together to present a special webinar on how to accelerate soil and ecosystem restoration!
✅ Learn about our Soil Regeneration Classes 👉 promo.soilfoodweb.com/
In Webinar 1, How to Accelerate Soil & Ecosystem Restoration, Dr Elaine Ingham will be joined by John D. Liu and some of the folks who are working on Ecosystem Restoration projects and they’ll be discussing how the process works and how the Soil Food Web Approach can be used to ensure success. The soil biome can be repaired at the start of a regeneration project and this can accelerate the process. Using Dr Elaine’s microscopy technique, you can monitor the soil biome, tracking changes weekly, which will enable you to compare the effectiveness of different strategies that you may be experimenting with.

The Soil Food Web School’s mission is to empower individuals and organizations to regenerate the soils in their communities. The Soil Food Web Approach can dramatically accelerate soil regeneration projects by focussing on the soil biome. This can boost the productivity of farms, provide super-nutritious foods, protect and purify waterways, and reduce the effects of Climate Change. No background in farming or biology is required for our Foundation Courses. Classes are online & self-paced, and students are supported by highly-trained Soil Food Web School mentors.
Over the last four decades, Dr. Elaine Ingham has advanced our knowledge of the Soil Food Web. An internationally-recognized leader in soil microbiology, Dr. Ingham has collaborated with other scientists and with farmers around the world to further our understanding of how soil organisms work together and with plants. Dr. Ingham is an author of the USDA's Soil Biology Primer and a founder of the Soil Food Web School.

15 years ago when I left school, all I dreamed of was more attention payed towards ecology, conservation and respect for nature. Although there is always work to do we have to celebrate the incredible achievements made to date. You guys with your maturity and experience, are establishing a global network which is amazing. All we have to do now is continue to inspire and help the young see a positive future, enriched with engaging work and activity. We need to fight the doom and gloom peddlers, the fear mongers, those that terrify and confuse the youth. 🙏💚 Save Soil

I joined the webinar because I’m a huge fan of Dr. Inghams. My background is wildlife biology and environmental law but I practice neither as I focused on family. However I always love to learn about systems and soil is invaluable. But I am really loving Mr. Liu and his broader perspective on economies and social structures - such good information. Thrilled you all exist and are doing this work.

I do gardening, and really if you have good soil, you don't need work hard. In 4 years I have turned my lawn into a beautiful flower bed, and my garden grows herbs and berry bushes. Some of my neighbors have followed on my footsteps. I live in Calgary, AB, Canada. In this place the climate is not easy , but I observe the plant are very smart during this short session to grow.

Thank you so much for all the beautiful work you all are doing. I hope very much to take this course at some point. I have just started farming because I know that it is and can be part of the solution when we shift the paradigm. There has been a lot of blame and negatively on farmers recently. But farmers are greatly under valued and misunderstood. I hope the WEF is watching.

You need to bring it not only to politicians and government, especially local governments, but to the masses because many federal politicians will ignore or hide their, unfortunately as it doesn’t benefit them financially. It’s a horrible thing that they don’t care about the people and planet they serve in general but it’s the truth.

Great stuff SFWS. Please share more on ways we can help save the planet individually. Like, Reducing surface temperature by growing plants, up to -20f on plant surfaces. Going our own food and its many benefits. Like food nutrients, Conserving water by using gray water, mulches, ground cover, drip watering ex.. Community projects like composting, trading resources and becoming a producer on a consumer. Don’t wait for Government to save you. Voting with your money is more effective. I don't really have a dream about a camp. But I've dreamed of creating a forest. Farmers and wood harvesters have been destroying woods. Lately some farmers been cutting down the small patch of woods just to get extra planting. Cut everything then put in a big burn pile, heart breaking. Last year woods next to me got raided, just to make pallets from the giant oaks. Looks like a tornado ripped though it

I see Dr Elaine and Dr Adam mention that the compost development and the microorganism ratio that is to be achieved would depend on the crop one plans to grow, when it comes to restoration sites such as grasslands or even temperate type forests systems, how would soil regeneration and making soil amendments for these kind of projects differ from those done for agricultural lands ? It would be really interesting to see how to handle soil regeneration in projects that involve rewilding forest or grasslands or riparian ecosystems . Are there examples of agroforestry farms that you guys have worked ? Thank you for the amazing content you guys put out here ! :)

I’m a fan and hope this helps. Ways to increase interest in the Microscope. 1. Create short dramatic story’s staring micro organisms, with a taste of ur teachings. Sounds like the makings of a great commercial for SFWS, If u ask me. 2. Find common micro dangers found in soil that can only be identified though magnification. Once identified, an informed prescription can be made for that organism. 3. Include relatable facts every human can relate too. Like how much and kinda of bacteria we have in and around our body’s. Show how prescribed positive bacteria treatments can improve our lives. Like solving chronic body odor problems. I see prescription aerated tea doing big things for human health and happiness in the future too. Say, an after spray for surfaces and humans, for instance. Adding that protective, positive bio layer back to your body after a shower. 4. Show prof’s.

Held water on the land feeds the water cycle. Droughts are caused by no water present in the area which can feed the water/rain cycle.. Held water can restore aquarium, lakes, ponds, streams and rivers not just dumping water back into the oceans when the ground is hard.

We're wise to bring the people along, especially those who find themselves without work rather than utilizing equipment. I think it was the introduction of machines where the disconnection to our Mother Earth began. This is coming from a mechanical engineer who has had to come to grips with this truth. I don't think trying to convince politicians is worthwhile either. Maybe some, but I'm sure many are in bed with large corporations who fund their campaigns and aren't in it for the people. My 2 cents...

Have you , at any of the camps , experimented with Tesla's agricultural technologies , do you have any experimental data that you could share with others . Using them instead of pesticides or fertilizer would be so important for the promotion of soil health . Rumor had it that productivity can be increased by up to 40 % . It would be cool if the government could sponsor the investment in an effort to phase out soil killing chemicals . Farmers should not have to carry that burden. Change for the better should be heavily subsidized .

Glad I mentioned it . I chanced upon it in a you tube video from Germany . Apparently experiments were conducted in Russia and then picked up by some creative medical marijuana growers in Germany that were able to increase the yield by up to 40 % . The frequency generators used give plants incredibly healthy growth habits that might also be able to drastically reduce the perceived need for pesticides . These technologies are also very successfully used in the alternative healthcare sector . They seem to be able to give damaged dna a sort of tune up that restores functionality . Check it out and if you like what you find please spread it widely . I've been searching the web high and low to find these cool novel techniques . My highly customized Google news feed has been of great help in this effort .

I used to watch politics and get into it. It brought out the worst part of me. I can be horrible to you without regret and tap into my alpha male beast mode, and it doesnt do anybody any good. I argued my points, my thoughts, my hope. Now I feel like the difference I made wasnt worth a squirt of pee. Since I started looking at my grass in my yard and thinking, "Hey I should add some seed!" I have gone on a journey into the grass and soil that's just fascinating. My over half a bag of scotts summer guard, and tub of miracle grow are sitting unused this year on the shelf. You have helped me fine tune my compost without a microscope in case you didnt know that🙏🙏🙏. I scour what you say for tidbits that serve my zero dollar budget business plan. I had composter aneurobic issues starting, because i tried a big 3 by 3 by 3 composter and it was more than I expected. I have gone out and collected a few samples of nature from a nearby park, there was some leaf mold, there was some nice rotted log with the nice soil at the base of it by a big ol tree, and I grabbed some tiny samples of random soil under leaves. All the Canadian Geese are home and they have their goslings walking aound the park like gangs( It's on a river) You dont mess with them... The males will attack and have a bone in their wing that can smash a femur! Yeah crazy eh! And they dont let you get colse, they will charge from 15 - 20 feet😅😆 So I am in the bush with a ziploc and a spoon and I stand up and hold up the bag to look into it at the goodies & a Mom rides by with her kids on bikes and see's me in my big hat doing stuff. Lol Using what I have picked up from all of the seminars I have seen, my compost is back in good shape. I was aprehensive to add a dominator like LABS & lose diversity, but you made me understand it was going downhill fast, and i needed a midway bacteria to stop it from heading aneurobic. Lactic Acid Bacterium, followed by homemade fish hydrolysate with mercury free portuguese sardines, and i started flipping it. I let some fungal activity happen before I flipped...maybe 3 days at first cpl flippings, now every 2 days, and its finishing up nice. Added some fresh chicken poop in a cpl thin layers from my friends chickens yesterday, so now I am gonna check the temp of the pile. Going to continue to flip it, and I screemed some to test if its gonna grow some bluegrass seeds i just grabbed up from my garden centre. Wish me luck. Prey for me to aquire a decent microscope that I can start learning from. My lawn husiness yas 2 customers and its discouraging now, but I will keep going and doing wyat makes me happy, and helps the Planet. Sorry bout typos is you read this whole blab.😅

If you look at the data from Ice core drilling and Drilling in the bottom of the sea on the floors the data shows there has been many times in history high levels of CO2 and methane much higher than now but they both run in correlation as one goes up so does the other but then the data also shows an ice age that happened shortly after a cooling of the planet so as for a catastrophe I wouldn't quite say that this seems to be a natural cycle of the Earth itself

I am confused here, why is this course so costly? As a knowledgable scientist and advocate of the Earth, wouldn't you want educate more humans as opposed to the just financially secure few? This seems a bit contradictory to what you state your environmental advocacy is on. I love Dr. Liu but Dr. Ingham needs to look at her priorities....Most regenerative farmers or farmers who want to convert to regenerative farming, cannot afford this course..As student of permaculture, I have been told by many that Dr. Ingham's reputation as soil scientist is being tarnished by what appears to be a pyramid scheme to capitalize on anthropogenic environmental destruction. Once you stated the price of your course, my heart just sank.....If you really care about the planet, this course should be federally funded or at the very least the cost should be on a sliding scale....I guess my Permie friends where right...

Hi Gabrielle, I understand your concerns. Here is some information about us that is important to consider. We are a for profit school with a mission to empower people to regenerate the soils in their communities. The Soil Food Web School employs more than 30 people, some of whom are PhD Biologists, agronomists and other highly skilled people, who are working very hard to try to make this knowledge available to farmers around the world. Our educational programs comprise a mix of online lectures and 1-on-1 mentoring, designed to help people to develop their skills so they can rapidly regenerate the soil biome, as we see this as being fundamental to the survival of life on earth and to ensuring food security for all. We collaborate with, and support, other organizations. One example is Tiyeni.org for whom we helped raise over $100k in 2021. Tiyeni have trained over 17,000 farmers in Malawi, Africa, to use regenerative practices, thereby increasing their yields by an average of 146% in year 1. This is life-changing for many of these farmers. Dr. Elaine has been working with the Tiyeni team to develop their composting process and the school has provided free training to Tiyeni's team so that they can use the microscope to assess the quality of the biology they are introducing to the soil, and to track the progress of the Soil Biome over time. The school has also invested in research projects to find other ways in which soil biology can be improved, such as seed coating, working with a global seed company on this in 2020/2021. We look forward to continuing this research in 2022. We are working towards broadening the educational content provided by the school, to include lots of other, useful information for farmers, ranchers and growers, designed to help them transition fully to regenerative agriculture in whatever setting they may be. I hope this insight into what the Soil Food Web School is about will go some way towards alleviating your concerns. Please feel free to reach out to our team with any questions here: info@soilfoodweb.com

I agree with the price being costly. but for me you mentioned schooling, so in a way you'll learning something that I would say is considered cheap if you tried learning this in college. For me it's to costly to consider doing this just so I can improve my vegetables garden. The only thing I'm interested in doing is the composting/ liquid tea making. Which I already started looking into before watching this. Only thing that changes for me is applying this on more then just my vegetables.

Mulch day! What if the engineers and biochemists knew that the fertilizers and herbicides and insecticides were bad for the soil and converting it to acres of indefinitely fertilizer- and herbicide- dependent dirt if the farmland would ever produce vegetables and grains. What if it was intentional? If you look politics and business, 20 years is nothing, most businesses plan for the long-term. They expect to be in business and thriving decades from now and have plans in place to ensure that, which makes the attacks and maligning anyone who had an interest in ecology or worrying about the earth. Hippies or tree-hugging liberals being two of the more popular. I heard a farmer in Iowa use the latter just last year in answer to a question about his herbicide causing non-Hodgkins lymphoma and now we have lawsuits.

No matter what, students of the Soil Food Web School must start with the Foundation Courses (FC). In the FC, you will learn the science, theory and application methods behind the Soil Food Web Approach developed by Dr. Ingham over the last 4 decades. The FC is an online, self-paced course comprising 63 lectures, and is very flexible. Each lecture has a corresponding quiz, which must be taken to progress forward onto the next lecture. Students typically require about 150 hours in order to complete the FC at a reasonable pace. We expect that a student can complete the FC in 4 weeks, if studying full-time. Once a student successfully completed the FC, meaning the scored above 90% on their quizzes, they can progress to our advanced courses, such as the Certified Lab-Tech Program.

If you are interested in the course, and cannot afford it, please reach out to our team here: info@soilfoodweb.com
